Egyptians march in solidarity with ‘Occupy Oakland’
Demonstrators marched on Cairo’s Tahrir Square on Friday, in a protest against the continuing military rule of their country and the perpetual state of emergency their government has maintained since 1958.

But there was another item on their agenda today: the recent violence in Oakland, California.

In the photos below, taken by Egyptian journalist Mohammed Maree and published on Twitter, demonstrators hold up signs showing solidarity with “Occupy Oakland,” urging President Barack Obama to intervene on behalf of the people, and echoing the generation-old meme, “Fuck the police.”

6. That gives me the chills.
Exclamation marks all over my skin. And tears in my eyes. Tears of appreciation for the consciousness that is rising.
We've waited so long for this global uprising - and now it has come.

If you're not on Twitter yet, you should be.

On the night the crackdown happened and Scott Olsen was injured, Egyptians were all over the #occupyoakland discussion, offering advice on dealing with tear gas and the police, expressing solidarity, telling the protesters to take the tear gas because it meant more people would be behind them the next day, and saying that we had moved up to Level 1 of protesting. I also remember one tweet saying that the US government had been messing around with their stuff forever, and that they had taken care of the tails and now we had to take on the masterminds.

They also reminisced about the smell of tear gas and said they missed those days, lol. :)

Editing because I'm a perfectionist.

22. Thank you Egypt!!!!

That means more than I can say really.

Our own politicians are silent cowards, waiting on their Focus Groups to tell them whether bloodying a veteran in a peaceful protest is going to hurt them or help them.

When they get a marketing answer, they'll crawl out of their hidey holes and condemn the violence. Or not.

But at least people in EGYPT Give a shit!!!!!!

:headbang: :loveya: Egypt :hi:
