Here's my WTF moment for today. I work for a county government. |
|
So do my co-workers. We get paid with tax revenue. We are in the SEIU (most of us) and have a pension plan.
Our wages are under attack, our pensions are under attack, our union is under attack.
Someone ask me out loud "what are you going to do this weekend." I told them I am going to occupy Santa Maria tomorrow. A couple of people asked me what that was and I tried to explain as well as I could again out loud.
The young MBA butt licking management want to be's were all giving me the evil eye which means "shut the fuck up!"
They all have huge student loans and could lose their jobs tomorrow and their pension may never happen and they don't have a clue!

2. And this is a scene repeated across America in many gov. offices and corporations. The ones |
|
that somehow think they are immune to everything, somehow they are special. I've worked with people like that and many of them are now walking the streets looking for jobs.

Perhaps they do and that is exactly why they are so nervous to hear you talking about it. People with a "little bit of privilege" are scared to death of losing it. They know if the system gets rocked that might happen. And what is sad is that they hold on to their little scrap of power with all their little heart and mind.

9. Well I know they are scared about something. That's the reason they kiss butt and |
|
act like rabbits caught out in the open. So you may be right on the money.

8. and you're in a thankless job that uninformed people get to publicly complain |
|
about your work ...
and then, after you've been forced to become more efficient and more "productive" (due to labor cuts), they complain about how it takes much longer to get something done ... (not even mentioning the fact that any public monies spent have to go through an arduous process of getting approved through the right channels, or else you get audited for misspending the public $$$)

10. keep up the whisper campaign. |
|
every chance you get mention things like, "Wow, BoA is laying off 30K working stiffs, I wonder what they'll do for a living now?" or "Did you see that article about the Marine being shot in the head at the Oakland Occupy camp? You'd think he would know a thing or two about democracy, huh?"
Hell, I do that in grocery stores, gas stations, on the beach, wherever and whenever the opportunity arises.
And thanks for being Union.
