Ok something is happening and the resistance is high |
|
On a local microcosm we had occupy San Diego march down to the Gaslamp Quarter. It wasn't ten, or even 100 people. It was a thousand or more.
Now this didn't happen in the world of my local media. So I called the newsroom at the ten O'Clock newscast. The guy answering the phone got ...irate. How dare I challenge the coverage? So I thanked him for NOT doing his job.
Now this has been the situation here for a long time. But now it is way too overt...and they are having a prob,em we have more than noticed.
How the frack do you keep control? I mean now we have a revitalized citizen media, this is not new. But tying to tell us they are honest brokers ain't gonna go well.
Do our citizen journos have a bias? Is the Pope Catholic? But the MSM might be realizing that they are losing us. The anger from that guy tells me they got way too many calls calling them on it. And indeed...this is like it's always been, it is their media and our media. Some things never change...

1. I think the real problem is that television producers re-package |
|
every story into the standard formula - thus we have the perrenial newscaster standing out in the surf during a hurricane telling us how dangerous it is to stand out in the surf during a hurricane, the reporter asking the man how it feels to have his house burn down with hsis family inside, the reporter standing outside the factory filminng workers after the lay-off, etc. Note that in each case, no real informaTion is transmitted. The problem with OWS is oit doesn't fit into a standard format. Too many different kinds of people are involved and there is no leader to interview.

But this march closed broadway as people went on the road. It is one of many examples. Off record I was told by editor of local rag that demonstrations are to be diminished or ignored...that's policy.

7. In the "story" of protests, the protesters are fringe elements, hippies. |
|
Remember: the Tea Party held rallies. Say it with me: "rallies." They were not protesters; they were concerned citizens! If, however, your concern comes from the left of field, then it's a protest. "Protest." Very good. Now you, too, can work in MSM!

Damn good observation!
Just the other day, I was having lunch at a cafe located in the building where I work. There are three TV "flat screens" on the wall for our "viewing pleasure." The sound is turned off, thankfully.
I glanced up at one of them and saw some football highlights. You know, a couple of plays important to the outcome of a particular game. Well, I suddenly thought, "I saw this some 40 years ago!" How many "variations" could there be with a standard play in football?
It's the hype! That's what media coverage is, any more: the hype. We live the same life everyday, day after day. In order to make it "more interesting," the bland and boring are hyped to make them new and exciting! Either it justifies a "24-hour a day" media industry, or keeps us consuming. Or both.

Due to the World Series being on tonight, I got hooked into Lame Stream media and decided to watch the San Francisco news shows.
On channel two, Fox news, there was a step by step presentation of everything that Mayor Quan has done in Oakland since Oct 11th, the day the first Occupy Oakland started.
Full recount of every activity that occurred from the 11th through to the 28th -- with NO mention of the fact that Scott Olsen was injured this week, that he suffers from brain damage due to the skull fracture that Oakland police inflicted on him because of their barbaric behavior.
We really need an "Occupy the Local News Media"
These people are using our communication media, the bandwidth, to offer up these pieces of propaganda, without the "Fairness Doctrine helping the public receive the information that we need.
It does make us all value the internet that much more.

The very first thing the people there did in their very successful bid to get rid of Marcos' regime was to occupy the news media outlets.
And the media can't refuse us. It is OUR BANDWIDTH and OUR AIRWAVES they are using to destroy us. And the destruction has worked - we have only two very miserable slime ball Poltical Parites, both owned at the highest levels by the Big MIC and Wall St interests.
Wish I could take credit for the idea - but it was an idea from the brave folks in the Phillipines. Some of whom gave their lives.

Make a point that the marches and protests are caught on video- spend a little time packaging the video into something good and post it to the tubes. Do not rely upon the "media" it is not in their interest to let this out.

38. Yes, but some things that used to never change are about to change, finally... |
|
So much has happened in less than 2 months... and this is just the beginning.
They're under new orders now, to stop ridiculing the Occupy Movement and begin to cover it in a seemingly serious yet very minimal way, in order to avoid the perception of bias that was becoming so obvious to many... but this too will only work for so long, especially as the movement's ranks swell with new recruits, and we begin to show them that this first wave was just that, and that we can be endlessly creative in finding new and innovative ways to defeat their dumb time-tested strategies, most of which, in the case of the use of media, are drawn directly from Goebbels' old playbook.
They are not truly creative thinkers; they are like the British in the American Revolution... they will not know how to deal with so many new and unexpected strategies. I can think of several that are going to take them by surprise myself right now, but will not share these ideas here at this time, as broadcasting our best solutions on boards like this would only give them the edge they need...
We all need, I think, to be wary of talking to loosely about what we might do next. I think it would behoove us to keep our best ideas close to the vest until we are actually ready to deploy them, because we can do that with astonishing speed now...
What's started here is a game of chess, of sorts... and what the 1% don't understand is that we are not going to play by their set of rules anymore. They've already lost the only advantage they ever had, that of setting all the rules, of fixing the game beforehand.
The times, they ARE a'changin'.

39. Same paper didn't put the war ending on the front page of its online edition, |
|
though they did put in in the print version. I wrote a letter to the editor complaining, which of course they didn't publish. I did get a response to writing the reader's representative, who said the San Diego Union-Tribune focuses on local news in its online edition! Apparently the idiots couldn't figure out that the Iraq War ending would have a huge local impact since we are a military town and also have at least 50,000 Iraqi residents.
Or maybe they just didn't want Obama to look good.
