To all OWSers and allies regarding photos |
|
No, I am not paranoid, keep those photos of faces to yourself. We are at a stage where any published photo will be used by cops in intel gathering and building of cases.
Signs fines, guy Fawkes, sure. But I am being dead serious, keep those faces in hard drives.
It is sad I even need to do this but while we are not in a police state, you need to think like that when it comes to police agencies that are starting to obey pretty Ilegal orders.
Oh and badge numbers are not matched to officer, has not been the case for decades...you need the actual officer name.

The faces are the faces of America. Observers relate to the diversity of age, color, gender, etc. Would Scott Olsen be getting as much attention if he were a tattooed, bearded, raggedy fifty-year-old veteran? IMO, no. But his boy-next-door baby face adds to the public outrage and grows more supporters. (Not that this is fair, but it's true.)

Some of the tactics used are out of insert police state (ligh) book. Expect screws to tighten in fact.

You're welcome to redact any faces you post, however.

7. I have to agree with you, and I don't think it is being paranoid.... |

Facial recognition software has gotten spooky good, and you can bet the Feebs, and bigger local police depts, at least, are trolling #OWS websites, Facebook, blogs, etc, seeing who's who and when and where.
Since I KNOW that I will be in someone else's group shot at Occupations and other events (and I will be on police video too), I've gotten to where I almost always wear a hoodie or wide-brimmed hat and shades (depending on time and weather, of course, shade at night or a hoodie up on a hot day always draws police attention.
The bandanna look just doesn't work for me, and Fawkes masks get damn uncomfortable pretty quickly.
It is really and truly another area of personal security that people (especially at Occupations or other protests), need to think about and take seriously.
