Knox sheriff demotes 5 deputies over traffic stop

Disgusting.

Knox County Sheriff Jimmy "J.J." Jones says it was enough to cost five deputies their badges, guns, cruisers and police powers. The sheriff said he demoted the officers from patrol to corrections after they admitted to "improvising" a creative punishment for a 19-year-old driver stopped on suspicion of speeding Oct. 16.

Deputy Brian Rehg, 34, pulled Phillips over. The other four deputies — Jason Acuff, 36; Jeff Bryant, 38; Brad Cox, 31; and Alex Slate, 40 — arrived later, the sheriff said.

The sheriff wouldn't describe what the deputies did. Knox County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Martha Dooley said video from their in-car cameras spoke for itself.

But the videos don't show the punishment officers devised, and the sound cuts out just as the punishment starts. The sheriff didn't say whether the deputies turned off their microphones — a violation of KCSO policy — although records show at least one of the deputies, Cox, has been reprimanded for that before.

1. Oh great, put these creeps in a postition
where they have even more power over a confined population. I don't want to know what they did, but if it was so embarrassing they can't even say, then they should flat be fired for it. And they should never be allowed a position of authority ever again.

And just for a hoot, I looked at the pics of these scum officers and picked out the ring leader before I read the article. Talk about your facial recognition.

2. I agree!
Just what we need... twisted, sicko, mean and angry jailers! Sheesh. No wonder our penal system is a stinking sewer.
The worst of the worst have been stuck in those jobs!

And don't they have some kind of LIMIT to breaking the law for LAW OFFICERS?

Brad Cox started work at the KCSO in 2002 and was promoted to patrol in 2004. He's been suspended at least twice and reprimanded once for various policy violations, the sheriff said.

5. Gawd sez Cops are Speshulll

They can act like terrorists and keep THEIR jobs.

Smoke a doobie in the privacy of your own home? No job for you!!!

And the 1% can't figure out why the 99% are pissed at this corrupt, evil system?

BTW, if you or I did anything heinous like these cops did, it would be all over the nightly news. Again, the SPESHULLNESS of the Knox cops keeps their sins private.

Nice form of "equal justice" we got going here, huh?

6. Positions of personal authority always attract exactly the wrong kind of people
who should hold them. Unfortunately the good get tarred right along with the bad. Of course at DU many are loathe to admit there are any good.

7. Beyond disgusting
I hope the teenager presses charges. I have a feeling they did something really horrible to him. At least he has a carload of witnesses.
