Nancy Pelosi DEMANDS Tax Increases for the Wealthy
Politico reports that Nancy Pelosi has thrown down the gauntlet. No more pandering to the Tea Parties and Grover Norquist.

Pelosi said she’s reserving judgment until she sees the package, but indicated that wouldn’t like cuts to health and retirement benefits without tax increases.

“It’s not fair to say to a senior, ‘You’re going to pay more for Social Security and we’re not going to touch a hair on the head of the wealthiest people in our country,’ ”

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1011/66997.html

In related news, Pelosi defended a plan to grant health reform waivers to some small companies, eliciting this response from the right wing.

Crazy old bat. And the fact that she's continually re-elected says a lot about her home district. What a bunch of loons.

and

She is one sick filthy animal.

If Nancy has one more face lift she'll have a goatee.

9. Yeah, let's lay that out in terms of effect on someone's life, shall we?
Let's compare the actual sacrifice that is going to be demanded by cutting that elderly widow's subsistence check, versus how that billionaire's life will change.

Hmmm? :puke: :nuke:

13. Don't we get a tax increase if they DON'Tcome to agreement?
Don't we get a tax increase if they DON'T come to agreement? Let's just let them expire, then we get tax hikes and no cuts. Win Win No compromise needed.

15. No - we are fucked royally if they don't come to an agreement.
There is an agreement-to-the-agreement: we will agree to this if, in the case the subsequent agreement fails, then all useless eaters/people who worked their tailbones off for our prosperity/are screwed...

21. Right wingnuts need to look at their butt-ugly members. Pelosi is an attractive, middle aged...
Italian woman. Meanwhile, try as I may, I can't find a right wingnut that isn't either ugly as a rat, a conscienceless psycho, a violence asshole, or a complete, idiotic-sounding doofus.

22. That doesn't read like a demand to me. "I wouldn't like to cut the benefits workers themselves
Edited on Sat Oct-29-11 11:30 PM by Laluchacontinua
pay for unless you increase your own taxes..."

????

A demand would be more like: "We will NOT cut the benefits workers pay for & have ALREADY paid for. But we WILL RAISE TAXES ON THE TOP 1%."

24. So when the union says "Give us a raise and we'll get back to work" that isn't a demand?
That is the union capitulating like a GOP dog?

What everyone fails to discuss is the relative value of a $15 a month Medicare premium increase versus reversal of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. Because the last Medicare plan I heard works out to big cuts for the doctors and small fees increases for the patients.

26. There's no equivalency between that statement & Pelosi's.
Edited on Sat Oct-29-11 11:59 PM by Laluchacontinua
"I wouldn’t like cuts to health and retirement benefits without tax increases"

"Give us a raise or we won't work"

Not grammatically, not semantically.

1) There's no "demand" in Pelosi's statement. If you think there is, tell me what the demand is.
2) The meaning of the 2nd statement is, if you don't do what we want, we will do something that harms you. The meaning of the first is, I wouldn't like to be harmed unless you are also harmed.
