DEM Susan Bysiewicz To RUN AGAINST Joe Lieberman
<>

Former Connecticut Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz (D)

" Former Connecticut Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz (D) is set to declare that she is running for the Senate seat now held by independent Sen. Joe Lieberman -- who, of course, still sits as a member of the Senate Democratic caucus.

The Connecticut Mirror reports:
<http://www.ctmirror.org/story/11196/bysiewicz-declare-us-senate>

"..A friend briefed on her Senate plans said that Bysiewicz, who won statewide races for secretary of the state in 1998, 2002 and 2006, intends to circulate a pollster's memorandum detailing findings that she remains well-known and popular.

Her announcement is likely to nudge U.S. Reps. Chris Murphy and Joe Courtney, who also are considering a run for the Democratic nomination for Senate, toward a decision."

Bysiewicz does have a serious blunder to overcome: She briefly ran for governor last year, then tried to switch to the attorney general's race -- only to be knocked out of the contest by a state Supreme Court ruling that she did not have the required legal experience for the job. This ultimately left her without an office to run for, and she exited the state political stage.However, Lieberman has his own serious uphill climb if he decides to run. After he lost the 2006 Democratic primary, he was then re-elected as an independent with unofficial Republican support. Although he remained in the Democratic caucus as he'd pledged to do during that campaign, he nevertheless campaigned aggressively for John McCain for president in 2008, and spoke at the Republican National Convention. After McCain lost, though, he settled back into place in the Democratic caucus.

5. Help me out here, I don't understand.....
Liebermann was defeated in the Dem. primary, so he ran as an Independent with a Rep. opponent, and won as an Independent. so, does he run again as an Independent, or can he decide to call himself a Democrat again. Some rules need to change. I don't see how he could be allowed to pull the same trick again. The Republicans will once again, run a weak Republican, because they have every reason to love Liebermann, he voted with them most of the time. If he runs as an Independent, will he have a primary Independent opponent?

6. Republicans now hate Lieberman, because he was the deciding vote for HCR.
If he runs in the Democratic primary, he loses. If he runs in the Republican primary, he loses. If he runs as an independent, he'll come in third place.

7. Lieberman's "Connecticut for Lieberman Party" was seized from him
He will either need to run as a Democrat or start another party.

9. Generally you can run in the primary for the party you are registered
And can run under any party line if you follow the rules. I don't know the specifics of CT election law, but Lieberman took advantage of a law that makes it easier for independents to run for office.

8. Chris Murphy, the Representative from the 5th District of CT, also

strongly hinted that he will run and he is a much better alternative to Ms. Bysiewicz.
