Our journey has begun...
Today we started the process of adopting Levi, a special needs child.

There's a lot of things to do and we are hoping to get a good chunk of them done prior to moving into our new home (when we finally find the right place).

We're excited and more than a little nervous, but we feel we've made the right decision.

After all, who could say no to this face:

One day we hope to call this young man 'our son'.

8. There are photolistings of children looking for forever families online..
I have been going through them for a few months trying to find someone who might accept Paul and I as his parents. When Levi was brought to our attention I knew he was the one. The case worker said that they would like to place him in a home with 2 fathers.

I'm just hoping we can expedite the process so he will not have to wait a year to become our son.

We certainly hope so, too.

10. His 'needs'...
Are to be in a family that loves him. He was sent to live with relatives in another state who then could not take care of him and he had to go back into foster care. He's feeling abandoned and that he can't trust adults. We're hoping that we can show him he can trust.

9. Bless you. Not every one in the world wants to adopt these children and
it is a real family that does it. I would offer to be a resource person but not sure at my age I know that much anymore.

12. I guarantee you...
You probably know a lot more than we do. I've been doing a lot of phone work today trying to get the process started. I've spoken with about 8 - 10 people. It's all frustrating but so exciting.

13. As a former social worker I would say the frustration with paperwork
will be your worst hazard. My daughter is special needs and what I found there is just to deal with each problem and joy as it comes up. Life is never going to be perfect. Her sister says that we take what we are given and do the best we can with it. She says that is what she learned from me as I took care of Terri.
