New RW Meme: Fossil Fuels don't come from organic sources. They come from volcanoes.
My crazy ass dad ran this by me the other day, and I did a double take.

After he left I looked it up, and sure enough, this is how they get around Evolution, Global Warming and pretty much every other scientific discovery since the Enlightenment.

i forget the word for it a------- something. the "a" meaning without, and the rest of the word meaning life. maybe it was something like abiogenic.

on edit: and i think it has been pretty well debunked.

5. Yep - abiogenic. Wasn't it one of Trofim Lysenko's kooky "theories"?
The irony - Conservatives citing Lysenko...

7. The scientific illiteracy they are in headlong pursuit of in our public education
means that people will be unable to question this erroneous line of thinking.

They seek an end to science. An end to The Enlightenment. Their goal is for us to be made serfs of the 13th century variety.

12. This is correct. The fact that many on our side of the aisle are working with them
is not encouraging as they clearly know better and know well the long term aims of the deform movement.

9. Jesus Walked With Dinosaurs 200 Years Ago. It's Been Proven by Actual Scientists!
:P

http://www.dailysquib.co.uk/most-popular/1236-scientists-prove-jesus-walked-with-dinosaurs.html

PETERSBURG - Kentucky - A panel of prominent scientists and paleontologists have discovered new groundbreaking evidence that Jesus walked with dinosaurs.

Jesus and his disciples walked with dinosaurs 2000 years ago and the earth and universe are only 10,000 years old.

Independent scientists funded by the Christian Neocon Church of Kentucky have also discovered that Adam and Eve wore fashionable garments given by God. This goes against the grain of the popular belief that they wore leaves over their genitalia in the garden of Eden.

These are just some of the myriad of facts which have now been discovered to be true by the scientists working in tandem with archeologists all over America.

19. There is one reason that is fabulously incorrect.
Dinosaurs actually existed at one time, we have verifiable proof of their existence.

The other thing, no direct evidence, just hearsay.

10. I had this discussion last year.
A very good friend of mine, who is unfortunately very conservative (with a heart of gold), told me oil comes from rocks. I asked him if it was then, indeed, possible to get blood from a turnip.

No. He wasn't kidding and even sent me some obscure links.

22. True enough
But I'm grateful (really) for these threads, because it forewarns me about some of the nitwit assertions I'm about to encounter next year on a church committee. I've found that blinking stupidly with your mouth agape is not an effective response to these ridiculous arguments. Knowing a little about this nonsense beforehand will enable me to have a comment or two in mind.

Do they understand what it means to be an "organic source" and what it means to be a "fossil"? Do they understand the basic relationship to the element Carbon to the two?
