'The President is tobacco-free': Obama's doctor confirms the 'Smoker-in-Chief' has quit
31st October 2011

The results of Obama's second medical examination since taking office, were released by the White House today, and the President was declared 'tobacco free'.

Obama, formerly a Marlboro Red man, had smoked at least since college, but says he has managed to kick the habit, despite the stresses of office.

Earlier this year Michelle Obama claimed that her husband had not smoked for almost 12 months.

The President has been trying to quit since at least 2006.

Obama's first presidential medical, which took place in February 2010, hinted at a continuing habit, with the doctor advising the commander-in-chief to 'continue smoking cessation' efforts . . .

The last gasp: A young Barack Obama smoking in front his family's hut in Kenya, Africa before he quit around 2009

4. it's not a real issue
just a minor political one

Highlights this President's lack of anything personally controversial for folks to gossip and snipe about.

11. Neither do I, but I'm still glad he's managed to quit
I understand quitting is a stinker and a half.

Good for him!

24. True, true.
You understand correctly. Quitting's a bitch. For me it was, anyway.

5. I read somewhere where that's hereditary
. . . and not likely related to stress or anything like that.

20. I think the caption is misleading and that picture is much older than that.
Isn't that from his trip to Kenya when he met his family there for the first time that he wrote about in his first book? I don't remember how long ago exactly that was, but had to have been around 20 years ago...

6. I honestly don't care.
He's an adult. It's none of my business what he chooses to do with his own body.

9. I guess that's why few worry about the message it sends to adults
. . . it's mostly just about the kids, if you're thinking about 'caring' what he does with his body. Of course, if you care, personally, about the President's health . . .

14. What I meant is that it's none of my business.
As for "the kids"--do you honestly think any of them would notice if the media didn't bring it up on a regular basis? It's not like he's sucking down a Marlboro during his education address.

12. crap, you're right
Maybe we should expect all of our Presidents to have a mom-in-law in residence. That'll keep 'em on the straight and narrow.

16. He has actually said that his Mother-in-Law sticks up for him if Michelle gives him a hard time.
I don't think she gives a hard time. Really, think about it, how would you treat your son-in-law if he was a husband and father like Barack Obama?

19. He seems to have an easy-going manner about him.
He cracks up easy, he even laughs at his own jokes.
I think that Michelle keeps his feet on the ground.

She's definitely the coolest woman in politics today.
I have a huge crush on her.
I'll bet her mom is a lot like her, smart, sophisticated, and great like Michelle is.

so the President gets kudos on this...especially considering the stress of his job.

Congrats, Mr. President. Excellent role model for smokers everywhere!

It does, however, reduce the chance of him having a heart attack
