Jobs crisis 'threatens wave of social unrest'

from the Guardian UK:

The International Labour Organisation has warned that a jobs crisis caused by the slowdown in the global economy threatens a wave of widespread social unrest engulfing both rich and poor countries.

Highlighting the darkening prospects for employment, the Geneva-based ILO said policymakers were running out of time to head off a double-dip recession in labour markets.

"We have reached the moment of truth", said Raymond Torres, director of the ILO International Institute for Labour Studies to mark the publication of the organisation's World of Work report.

The study found that only half the 80m jobs needed to return employment to its pre-crisis levels were likely to be created over the next two years, and that the stalling of the global recovery was already leading to an increase in joblessness. Torres said: "We have a brief window of opportunity to avoid a major double-dip in employment." ..........(more)

1. OWS is polite
If the crackdown against them is as violent and idiotically overdone as it has been so far, the next protest won't be quite as polite.

That's just the way it works.

In the meantime, I hope people are getting the violent cops identified so we can work at getting them off the street.

It's assault when it's done by a cop, too.

3. I quit working back in 2002 when I moved back home
My field was electronics repair. I loved my work and customers but 15 years of trying to keep the company I worked for from committing suicide, I couldn't take any more. I'd love to go back to work, but I'd rather help some young gun pick up where I left off.
My only job now is to make sure my 90 y/o mother has everything she needs.
