Observation about the JetBlue incident: |
|
I am old enough to remember the days before airline deregulation. I don't ever recall such incidents back in those days.

2. The pilot begged for clearance to go anywhere that passengers could get off. |
|
The airport would not comply. They are claiming they were overwhelmed with diverted traffic.

6. I'm wondering how much time I'd serve for opening an over wing exit to "liberate" the passengers. |
|
I could not have tolerated that without losing it.

in the years before deregulation, and things like that did not happen. The closest was an incident at Dulles Airport, perhaps in the late 1970's, when a plane was held for about some hours (cannot recall just how long but I'm thinking it might have been 24 hours) while a determination was made if someone on board the flight, which was headed to Moscow, really wanted to defect and stay in the U.S.A. But that was incredibly unusual, and incidents like the recent Jet Blue one just didn't happen then.
I'm not sure why, either, because bad weather has always been with us. I think the fact that flights were routinely not very full then was part of it. Plus, I suspect that there are so many more airplanes and flights in general that many airports reach full capacity very quickly. But not pushing an empty plane away from a jetway to allow passengers to disembark is beyond idiocy.

Flying Jetblue in 3 weeks.....
I'm really bringing an empty plastic covered pint bucket, and I'll use it, damn it. Too freaking bad. Anyone know a good over the counter sleep aid?
