This would need a high degree of security because it will eventually become a whistle blower site.

1. You might want to write someone at the EFF and see if they have any recommendations.
Remember, the big deal is typically providers getting subpoenas from the government or elsewhere. There are certain international jurisdictions where what you want can be achieved more easily than others.

My 2 cents.

2. It is actually going to be lame compared to REAL whistleblowers.
I'm just going to post public records which the local evil architects assumed that the people they conspired against were too busy to retrieve for themselves, or too stupid to figure out.

I just want to put everything I've accumulated in one place where people can retrieve and make up their own minds. It's a local matter, which the state authorities already know about. In good ole boy style, they just looked the other way.

13. They're the Electronic Frontier Foundation. They're like Tron: They fight for the users.

14. I have another question.
Let's say that, even though it's public record, I don't want to make those files accessible with google searches. For example, I don't want anyone to type in their names and have the website pop up. I hope to do this by using the website as a dispatch center to the documents. You would have to click on the link to have all the names revealed. Do websites work that way?

15. Some of what you're thinking can be done with a robots.txt file on your webserver.

I don't know much beyond that, but that should get you going in the right direction.

They provide web hosting services that are as close to untraceable as you can get.

Good luck to you. Sounds like a worthwhile project.

11. Thanks Bragi.
I'm sort of feeling better realizing that I'm ready for this step, and it feels empowering. Something I haven't felt in years.

5. Take a look at invisihosting.com
http://invisihosting.com/

Looks solid on the privacy side, and plans are cheap, ranging from $3-$10/month. One very cool feature is that to preserve the site owner's anonymity, they accept payment in cash, gold, silver, or barter!

Worth a look.

And best of luck!

6. That looks good too
It doesn't say where their servers are located, though.

I presume it is not a US firm with US-based servers, yes?

8. eeek! It's a flash-based site (meaning security problems big enough to drive a truck through)...
I might use it to build a website about my puppy, but for a whistle-blower site? Not so much.
