Cops arrest eighth-graders who took machete, cleaver to school

Police have arrested two eighth-graders at Chimacum after they tried to take a 2-foot machete and a large meat cleaver to school.

The arrests came Monday morning after Jefferson County deputies got reports about students who were bringing weapons to school, KIRO/7 reports.

One boy tried to sneak the machete into school in the back of his pants. The second had a foot-long cleaver and two folding knives in his backpack.

The discovery of weapons prompted a lockdown at Chimacum High School and a search for additional weapons. No more were found.

Does anyone have questions as to why we insist on pants being pulled up, belted and not baggy, and shirts tucked in?

Edited to add: I work in Middle School. These kids brains are not fully engaged yet. There is also a lot of drama. I cut them lots of slack but we have some rules for a reason-not just to be fuddy duddy.
