A rebuttal letter from a 1%er. He's threatening to stop propping us up. A bit of an empty promise, considering they're already pulling hard on the rug.

Then screech for those union EMTs and nurses to fix the boo-boo.

I'd pay good money to watch them go two rounds with a surely lawn mower.

80. The preacher and the slave. The last bit is the relevent part.
Long-haired preachers come out every night,
Try to tell you what's wrong and what's right;
But when asked how 'bout something to eat
They will answer in voices so sweet
Chorus
You will eat, bye and bye,
In that glorious land above the sky;
Work and pray, live on hay,
You'll get pie in the sky when you die

And the Starvation Army, they play,
And they sing and they clap and they pray,
Till they get all your coin on the drum,
Then they tell you when you're on the bum
(Chorus)
Holy Rollers and Jumpers come out
And they holler, they jump and they shout
Give your money to Jesus, they say,
He will cure all diseases today
(Chorus)
If you fight hard for children and wife-
Try to get something good in this life-
You're a sinner and bad man, they tell,
When you die you will sure go to hell.
(Chorus)
Workingmen of all countries, unite
Side by side we for freedom will fight
When the world and its wealth we have gained
To the grafters we'll sing this refrain
Chorus (modified)
You will eat, bye and bye,
When you've learned how to cook and how to fry;
Chop some wood, 'twill do you good
Then you'll eat in the sweet bye and bye

7. What I don't understand, more than the 1%ers,
is the 99%ers who continually take their side. I've been arguing for days with people in our paper's comments section about the merits of the Occupy movement. These people are absolutely adamant that we have nothing to complain about and have taken to throwing around epithets like "Fleabagger" or "Fleabeggar." People are so brainwashed they don't even recognize their own self-interest anymore.

For example, see comments to this inocuous invitation: http://www.adn.com/2011/10/30/2146801/join-us-at-occupy-anchorage-to.html

101. We are not upset that some people are rich. We are upset that the game is rigged
Edited on Wed Nov-02-11 12:25 PM by tblue37
so that those of us who play fair have trouble surviving financially, much less becoming rich. When someone gets rich without cheating or screwing others, then we are happy for them, especially if they do not try to pull up the ladder they climbed so no one else can move up after they have made it.

For example, no one is complaining about George Soros or Warren Buffet, because they are on the side of the 99% and believe (and publicly argue) that the 1% are not paying their fair share of taxes and should be taxed at a more equitable rate.

common misconception...
We are not saying that you cant "get rich" or do whatever to earn a good living. Just dont do it by by raping the general population.

And I really doubt you know the 1% - these people are billionaires x10. The people like the Koch brothers wo dont give a damn about anyone dieing due to their poisoning of the environment.

What we want is for you to be ABLE to be rich. Not a rigged game at the top that prevents everybody but "the 1%" for sharing the wealth.

111. It's all part of divide and conquer.
The problem is that some folks get a little bit of money and suddenly they feel that they're a 1%er when in fact they are just one layoff or one major illness away from bankruptcy themselves.

That's what's going on with the teabaggers. Look up the demographics of the tea party and you'll find that they are really not all that different than the norm. Sure they're a little bit whiter, a little bit more male, a little bit older with a little bit more money but all in all they are far closer to being poor than being a 1%er.

In other words these are people that are still clinging to the "middle class" but they are so fearful that they will be pushed down into the ranks of the poor like they have seen happen to so many others.

Then you get folks like the Koch brothers and Americans for Prosperity that come along and tell them that the reason they have lost "their" America is because some poor minority is getting food stamps and welfare when in fact the reason they have lost "their" America is because of people like the Koch brothers have outsourced literally 100's of millions of decent paying middle class jobs and sold the rest of the country and its natural resources to the highest bidder.

The problem is not that the Koch brothers tell people lies to further their own goals, that's only natural, the problem is that people are so desperate for an answer that they believe them because they would far rather believe that they have even the remotest chance of becoming a 1%er than to believe that they have far more in common to the poor than to the 1%.

The best explanation of this is a clip by George Carlin entitled "It's a big club and you ain't in it." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5dBZDSSky0

Or build and maintain their own cars. Or add infinitum. 99% covers the entire economy on which the rich gluttonously feed on. Many of them are just ignorant parasitic grifters and thugs who ravenously rip off the 99% of 99% of their pensions their houses and the few dollars they have, prying away at any gold teeth that may still be being horded in someones mouth.

The pressure needs to be on the government to regulate. This includes closing loopholes in laws, enforcing our current regulations, and making new ones.

That way, we as a nation have a sustainable goal.

Btw., chances are this wasn't even written by a 1%er. It stinks of being written by a wannabe.

He isn't even close to a 1%.

He makes a couple of hundred k's a year and is in love with himself.

You would have a better chance of seeing Russia from Palin's house than seeing a 1% from where this guy lives.

In the non too distant future these traders will be obsolete and the idea of a physical trading floor with people barking sales will seem as quaint as first class mail, chatting with a bank teller, walking down the aisle of a Blockbuster.

This guy will be a manager of hands only car wash wondering what to do when the last car wash goes automated.

Hope he has his tent ready.

Listen, dude, you're equating your ability to deal with high stress for big money to the ability to do manual labor for less than you need to survive. It doesn't work like that. Put your whiny ass on the floor at Walmart stocking shelves for minimum wage, no benefits, and you'll be pleading for foodstamps and sobbing for a union in a week. You won't be worrying about those restaurant tips because you can't afford that restaurant, or that landscaping because you don't have a yard, and your car will be parked on the street, IF you have one. Oh, and when all that stress you put on your heart catches up with you? Guess what??- you're fucked! and so's your family! You're out of that minimum wage job, unemployed, disabled and begging for the pittance that disability will give you. Yeah. Good luck with that "taking our job" stuff, sir.

Don't try spouting this shit to people who have ACTUALLY BEEN THERE like you knew what you were talking about. Seriously.

61. Ok, let me get this straight...
"We don't take an hour or more lunch break"

Ok, neither do I.

"We don't demand a union."

Neither do I, or 85% of the US workforce. Still, they brought us a 40-hour work-week and I'd join one if there were any place it would help me as an aging white-collar worker-bee.

"We don't retire a 50 with a penson."

Um, who does? I know a Navy guy who "retired" at 40-something with a pension (to start a second career) -- but he freaking deserves it, donchathink?

"Do you really think that we're incapable of teaching 3rd graders and doing landscaping?"

No, you probably are capable. Now that you mention it, why don't you do something worthwhile for a change? The world -- the WORLD -- needs more education and more care to the natural environment.

"I'll be hitting grounders to the high school baseball team for $5K extra a summer, thank you very much."

You're welcome very much. Please do. My back hurts. Yours is probably well-rested anyway.

"We aren't going to leave the 35 percent tip at our business dinners anymore. No more free rides on our backs."

You think servers didn't deserve the 35 percent tip serving your asinine demands? Trust me, it wasn't a free ride. If they didn't need the job, they wouldn't be working it. Fifteen-percent is minimum in my neighborhood anymore, probably 25-percent in yours. Just like "bonuses" are standard in your industry, "tipping" is standard in the restaurant industry. Part of the salary structure. Do the right thing, asshole, or eat your own cooking.

"We're going to landscape our own back yards, wash our own cards with a garden hose in our driveways."

Wow. Like the rest of us. Big whoop.

"Go ahead and take us down."

Don't worry about us, we don't have far to fall, and we have friends to catch us. Prick.

64. I'm sure their job is to "make money", but...
...that's not what they tell all the rest of us of the role they are supposed play in the economy.

The role they tell all of us they play is in routing money, not making it. Some people have excess resources, and rather than simply putting it in storage (the proverbial "under the mattress") they make it available to these fine fellows, who match it up with someone else who needs resources to start/expand a venture. If it is successful then wealth is created and all parties benefit. The value the financial guys are supposed to add is in determining the risk of the ventures and deciding which are good investments, what the risks are, etc.

That's the theory, but in that theory they route money, not make it (it's the other people who do that), and as a reward they can skim a portion for a fine personal income.

But that's not the reality, it hasn't even been close to reality for decades. For the financial guys, "making money" means shoveling money into your own accounts by whatever means you can get away with. And squeezing and swindling are easier and surer ways to "make money" than evaluating and financing productive ventures in the real economy.

The 99%ers don't see why that form of "making money" should be considered sacrosanct, exalted, and untouchable, particularly when it is actively costing everyone else.

71. We don't want to mow your yard or wash your car.
Dumbass, that is a large part of what this movement is about. We want decent, living wage jobs. The only (or most money) in a "service based" economy is in the financial sector. By deregulating that sector, they have been allowed to become predators on the 99%.

In the service based economy there are a few other good paying jobs, Dr., health care worker (if you had to pay large amounts for your education) but these occupations are also being co-opted by the "for-profit" insurance system. We have seen about a 600% increase in medical costs in the last 3-5 years and this extra money is going directly to the for-profit insurance companies. Their CEO's lead opulent lifestyles while many millions of people cannot afford health care.

Please, mow your yard and wash your car. While you are at it, pay your fair share of taxes.

Edited on Wed Nov-02-11 11:07 AM by DemOhio
Or at least he was damn close to it. He was a corporate lawyer that started a car museum. He used the museum as a tax write-off. His wife was a exec vp at MAJOR tech company which you have definitely heard of. He had a second house in the Hamptons and bought an apartment building (yes, the entire building) in Greenwich Village so his son could live there. It was the same building that kevin spacey lived it. The son, living in New York, still wanted to vote in Ohio because it was a swing state so he rented an apartment (which he never even visited) just so he could cast 1 vote. They were doing well money wise. My lawyer boss eventually was indited for fraud because he wanted the accountant to cook the books. He also was hiding a Nazi mercedes that belonged to some dude in Geramny. He got busted for that too. love it.

Anyway, although I was a docent at the museum, the guy still wanted me to do the cleaning. Sure no problem. One day there was a big event and I had to leave a vacuum cleaner in the guys office because I was needed downstairs. When I came back, the 1% dude stared yelling and swearing at me because of the vacuum. He demanded I put it back in the closet, 6 feet away. He seriously couldn't do it himself because that would be too much trouble. Another time we need the grass by the sidewalk mowed. No body was able to do it so he had to do it himself. It was the most hilarious and pathetic thing Ive ever seen. He was huffing and puffing the whole time...when he finished, he acted like he had just moved a mountain.

Man, that guy was such a tool.

Moral of the story....there is no way in hell these people are going to do their own yard work or wash their own cars. They believe such a task is beneath them.

On another note, if you like Packard cars, check out that museum in Dayton.

the cashier process of putting food down on the revolving rubber mat and then paying for it.

He was so rich that his in house chefs his entire life took care of shopping and feeding him. He probably thought food magically appeared on his plate from the gods.

If the in house cooks ever left or the caterers stopped coming they'd probably end up poisoining themselves with their own cooking.
