Chick-fil-A gave $1.7 million to anti-gay groups in 2009

Tax documents examined this week by a gay rights blog reveal the extent of donations made to anti-gay groups by the Chick-fil-A fast food chain, highlighting over $1.7 million in payments made in 2009 alone.

It was previously well established that Chick-fil-A had donated over $1 million to anti-gay groups from 2003-2008, even though the company’s official line is that they have no agenda.

However, IRS documents examined by the Media Matters blog Equality Matters seem to prove otherwise: over $1.7 million was given by Chick-fil-A’s charity arm to groups like the National Christian Foundation, Campus Crusade for Christ, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Serving Marriages, Inc., the Georgia Family Council and the Family Research Council, among others.

Interestingly, Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy joined Atlanta’s gay community for an AIDS walk last week, but the company refused to say why.

Really don't need a reason to avoid the crappy food made by Chick-fil-A. But still, people should know about this!

I've supported Christian businesses before. One of my favorite Coffee Shops is a non-profit Christian organization but they use their profits to help raise money for local foodbanks. But I won't support organizations that fight against basic civil rights & equality.

7. That is correct. They also serve southern fixins' (fried okra, greens, mac/cheese etc.) sides at
their Dixie-based establishments (you won't find them elsewhere, though).

The chicken is very tasty and high quality. It's probably not terribly good for you, since the good stuff is fried.

There are a lot of people with intolerant views who own or have owned fast food franchises, it seems.

5. I'm disappointed
I have always respected Chik-Filet for closing on Sundays. They're a Christian company that actually does what their Bible says to do. However, this is unacceptable. Judge not, Chik-Filet, judge not. I will no longer be drinking your tasty milkshakes or eating your tasty breakfasts, sad to say.

6. I'm going to pass this on to my son. He has a Chick-fil-A on his campus.
This pisses me off. I also refuse to donate to The Salvation Army for their refusal to hire Gay people. No more. I'm NOT supporting these businesses and organization that discriminate. I refuse to do it.

12. They don't just donate to anti-gay groups - they also run one of their own.
Their WinShape foundation, among other activities, runs couples retreats that "focus on biblical principles for marriage".
