Girl Scouts now allow 'transgendered boys' to join Brownie troops

Send an email to the new Girl Scouts of America chief executive, Anna Maria Chávez, expressing your disappointment in their recent decision to allow boys as troop members.

November 1, 2011

Dear nadin,

The Girl Scouts of Colorado has flip-flopped on a decision not to let a 7-year-old boy join their organization, now saying he is welcome even though he's not a girl, according to FoxNews.

The Girl Scouts issued a statement to the local Fox affiliate, saying they are an inclusive organization and will accept "Bobby." The troop leader who turned him away made a mistake, they said, and the situation is being rectified. "If a child identifies as a girl and the child's family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout," the statement said.

This follows a long history of liberal leanings by the Girl Scouts of America:

Girl Scouts supports Planned Parenthood
Girl Scouts recognizes many "gods"
Girl Scouts advances lesbianism and radical feminism
The Girls Scouts of America has lost it's way and lost its mind. A boy is not a girl, end of story.

TAKE ACTION

Send an email to the new Girl Scouts of America chief executive, Anna Maria Chávez, expressing your disappointment in their recent decision to allow boys as troop members. Let them know you will not support the Girl Scouts as long as it continues down a path of destructive policies.

AFA is proud to recommend the Christian-based American Heritage Girls as an alternative to the Girl Scouts of America. American Heritage Girls has over 13,000 members in 41 states.

-----------

Mod note, nooz release...

To the rest of du, thank the girl scouts.

Oh and that American Heritage Girls might have a certain whiff to it.

Yup, I get their tripe so you don't have to.

are closed-off and bigoted.

13. Correction: closed off in the way that the ...
AMERICAN boy scouts are. Most other countries scouts have no problems with it.

6. My daughter loves her girl scout troop -
and I love that our leader is Atheist. We are a diverse troop in economic, religious, and cultural backgrounds - and I love that the girl scouts supports that as an organization.

8. May I ask what kinds of things her troop does?
My daughter will be reaching that age before I know it, and I want to know if Girl Scouts is right for her. I especially want to make sure that the cookie sale money is going toward actual life-enriching experiences for the girls rather than just paying salaries of the bigwigs.

Thanks in advance.

Apparently the national organization takes a royalty cut:

Q: Does any of the money from cookie sales go to Girl Scouts of the USA (the national Girl Scouts organization)?
A: Girl Scouts of the USA is paid a royalty for use of the licensed trademarks by its licensed vendors based on gross annual sales volume. Girl Scout councils do not provide any portion of their cookie revenue to Girl Scouts of the USA. No other revenue from cookie sales goes to Girl Scouts of the USA. Girl Scouts of the USA provides contractual services and approves all educational materials developed by the bakers, as well as providing coordination and training for national media, safety standards, leadership programs and sale guidelines.

I know most of it stays local - with the local counsel and the girl's troop each getting a portion. I haven't been able to find anything that says the group is non-profit, so it may well be a for-profit entity.

Here in Houston (I'm in Pearland) we belong to Girl Scouts of San Jacinto: http://www.gssjc.org/about.cfm

Each troop is going to vary widely depending upon leaders/members. Our troop sold a lot of cookies last year and also collected small dues (amounted to about $50 per girl for the year). We meet bi-weekly during the school year and once per month in the summer. Our troop is quite active and likes to camp so that has been the major activity. We've also done many smaller activities - sports events, service projects such as collecting for food banks, crafting events, horseback riding etc... In the groups they do various exercises in which they learn about themselves and their environment (chapters on shopping for nutritious food, collecting leaves and doing leaf etchings, etc..., exercises to learn about different cultures) - really a variety of things.

We are fortunate in our area because San Jacinto has a lot of camps and various activities. I'd definitely urge you to give it a try. They are also great about subsidizing girls who aren't high income - the goal is that every girl who wants to be a girl scout can do so regardless of income.

23. Ooooo, San Jacinto, you guys must be busy getting ready for Convention next week.
I'm a Girl Scout, and I can't tell you how tired we (staff) are of fighting this bullshit. It's apparently okay to hide 5,000 sex offenders and pedifiles in Boy Scouts, but stand up for girls? It's heresy.

These idiots want everyone to homeschool their kids so they can spoon feed them everything they need to know and believe. Believe me, none of it's worth a crap.

Girl Scouts rocks--if we could get just A QUARTER of the money the Boy Scouts raise, we would be able to do so much more for girls....

The AFA (and other like-minded groups) seem to believe that people only crossdress and/or assume the identity of somebody of the opposite sex in order to invade the bathrooms (or organizations) of members of the opposite sex and sexually harass and assault them. Most people I know whom crossdress do so because they identify as the opposite sex and are thus doing what comes naturally for them or dressing up to express parts of themselves. I haven't heard of any of them deciding to dress up as girls just so that they can "infiltrate" women's restrooms/organizations. In fact, most of the crossdressing guys I know are terrified of being discovered in the women's restrooms but, seriously, aside of (hopefully) finding a "family restroom", what else are they going to do? Walk into the men's restroom with a dress on? Good for the Girl Scouts for making the right decision in this matter. I wish that the Boy Scouts was an equally progressive organization.

To them, it seems like "icky"=evil. They really need to get out more IMHO. Unfortunately, many of them prefer (and demand) a more cloistered and exclusive existence and seem to be hell bent on imposing their own "lifestyle" on the rest of us and cry foul when the rest of us fail to respond to their bigoted demands.

25. Poor little kid. I feel bad for a young little kid who has an outter gender that doesn't match the
inside. A kid like that would not feel wanted with the boy scouts either. If every now and then a little boy feels better in the girl scouts, then so what. It doesn't need to be a national political issue.

This kid has feelings, he has worth even though he doesn't fit in the most common widget slot.

Give him and his family a break.

29. Girl Scouts were awesome

I was a Brownie and a Scout for a while. Very enriching and enjoyable for me. We didn't have any non-fundie troops near us when my daughter was young or she would have been a scout as well.

There are children born with all sorts of anomalies; working in a Children's hospital I saw too much to believe our sexuality is not an amazing, mysterious process that isn't always defined by our "parts." These Good Christians are like frickin' little kids, repressed, pathetic bullies.

31. Title needs editing: "From the militant hate group AFA: ... hide your girls!"
Edited on Wed Nov-02-11 06:17 AM by mwooldri
Now that's a better headline and closer to the truth.

AFA is a hate group as defined by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

my own edit: AFA is lumped in with the Ku Klux Klan, Aryan Nation, New Black Panthers, Westboro Baptist Church and others.
