Simpson attacks AARP
At the Deficit Reduction Committee hearing, Simpson voiced his anger over seeing AARP’s latest commercial that featured an elderly man warning Congress if Social Security and Medicare were cut.

“Just this morning I saw that ad, that is the most disgusting ad I have ever seen.” “I don’t know what the people got paid, especially the actors, but I’ll tell you this, I am well paid. They said, “We’re 50 million, we’re watching you, and we vote. That is a really ugly thing.”

Simpson, who earlier on MSNBC’s The Daily Rundown, Simspon called the commercial’s lead actor a “jerk” and “arrogant,” went on to continue chastising the organization.

“Let me tell you want will happen with their view of the world which is to do nothing to restore the solvency of Social Security,” he said. “In the year 2036, you’re going to wattle up to window and get a check for 23% less, and then I will hope they remember AARP. And I hope a lot of young people will too.”

If the Social Security Trust Fund is in the terrible shape that Simpson thinks it is in then --

1) Why is Obama providing and advocating for a Social Security (payroll taxes) vacation? The seniors and baby boomers paid extra into the fund and now young people are not being asked to pay? That is immoral. It is intended to pit fathers against sons. Theft by the Obama administration pure and simple.

2. If Social Security is in such bad shape, what did Congress do with the money that we all paid into it throughout our lives? We are told that there is virtually no inflation right now -- so little that we who are older did not receive COLAs -- rises in our Social Security payments over the past couple of years. So where is our money? It should still be sitting in the Social Security Trust Fund which, if you read the statutes, you will learn, is supposed to be held by the Treasury Department. Timothy Geithner, where is our money?

Either way, Simpson is either ill informed or lying or advocating theft.

1. LMFAO... this commercial will fuck you over 25 years down
the road. Because we in the government are too fucking stupid to come up with a fix sometime in the next 25 years.

7. Simpson, Bowles, Geithner, and that whole crowd is fixated on stealing
the $2.6 trillion (and growing) Social Security Trust Fund for the 1%. Obama and many Congressional Democrats and all Congressional Republicans are either willing accomplices or useful idiots for the bad actors.

Thanks for this info.

8. God, that man is a complete dork. And clearly he doesn't like the citizens getting 'uppity'
warning him that his actions are being watched and that THERE WILL be consequences.

Arrogant indeed.

9. If Simpson does not get his posterior in gear and address
Climate Change, there is not much point in worrying about after 2036.

10. He thinks the actor was a "jerk" and "arrogant" and the ad vaguely threatening somehow?
Perhaps the over 65 crowd, or future SS recipients for that matter, objected to being called tit sucking greedy geezers as his panel planned benefit cuts.

Or maybe they take issue with Simpson's continued assertion that the SS trust fund was stolen fair and square and we all need to get over it.

That's arrogance dude.

11. Simpson has never been able to tell the truth. That's why he was the co-chair of that committee.
I thought he died a long time ago.
He smells like he did.
And he looks like death warmed over.
So, why is he still saying anything in public??

12. Social Security will be in financial duress in 2036. The military is only budgeted ...
... through this fiscal year.

Which one is "broke"?
