Cain Accuser Got a Year’s Salary in Severance Pay

WASHINGTON — The National Restaurant Association gave $35,000 — a year’s salary — in severance pay to a female staff member in the late 1990s after an encounter with Herman Cain, its chief executive at the time, made her uncomfortable working there, three people with direct knowledge of the payment said on Tuesday.

3. The good that could come of this is that Cain goes away
and doesn't get a seat at the table so we have to listen to his drivel and the repukes can believe they are not racist.

However I'd still like him to get the nomination

CAIN / PERRY 2012 !!!!!!

8. He'll go away with or without this
He's not running a serious campaign. He has no ground game.

He doesn't want to be president. He wants to raise his price as a public speaker. Or maybe get a million from Faux News.

That certainly doesn't lessen the entertainment value of this though. It's always fun watching a GOTPer act a fool.

4. Seems like a relatively small pay out
Doesn't mean much since it was all internal, could easily be that these women got railroaded compared to the pay out if they had gone to court.

6. The 3 to 6 months of severance Cain claimed was already fairly transparent.
Nobody in a position to be making $35k would be able to expect that as an "average" severance deal. But for it to be a year's salary just makes it more obvious that Cain is lying his ass off, again.

10. $35,000 doesn't seem that egregious to me.
I'm thinking it was something off color but not that big a deal?

16. when you are a low employee facing court and battlin with the wealthy adn he said she said
many would take that...

it would allow them to be secure while looking for another job.

court doesnt award huge amounts often at all. not the cash cow people seem to think it is.

seems like a reasonable pay out for the time and earnings.

13. Year's wages
$35K does not sound like a large sum but when that is a year's wages, then we are talking about a lower level employee.
It sounds as though the matter was settled before a lawsuit was filed.

14. They determine settlement amounts based on your salary and not on the actions?
Weird.

Thats actually pretty bad because it would encourage you to harass a lower paid person.

17. Compensatory damages are based on the salary, not the actions
Punitive damages are based on the actions and are not easy to get in Title VII cases.
