Mitt Romney will get the GOP nomination and Tim Pawlenty will be his running mate |
|
That GOP ticket will lose convincingly to Obama/Biden. The election will be called as soon as the polls close in California.
It has been spoken. So it shall be.

4. I don't see what Romney gets out of picking Pawlenty as VP. |
|
He'll be needing to shore up with the hard right.
It's Rubio for Romney.

Agree with OP. In Pawlenty, Romney gets the only GOP primary contender with an IQ over 70.

10. He gets the evangelicals with Pawlenty |
|
In 9 months, the Tea Party will be well past prime. The OWS movement will have the GOP scared and fighting among themselves. The "hard right" won't vote for Mitt no matter what. He'll need to play to the religious right and independents.

12. I just don't know that T-Paw's pull with the fundies is strong enough |
|
to offset the fact that he brings absolutely NOTHING else to the table.
He's going to look dangerously ineffectual up there in a debate against Biden. Particularly when things turn in a foreign policy direction.

I don't see what Pawlenty would add to a Romney ticket. I guess Minnesota could be a good state to aim for.
I'm expecting an Hispanic. I have never heard Susanna Martinez speak. She could be a good match with Romney.

16. I actually think Romney should just run a full on "big business" ticket |
|
Forget the tea party, forget the evangelicals. Go one hundred percent on the economy and position yourself as the ticket for business.
Run one play. We're good for business. Vote for us. It wouldn't work, but nothing is likely to work for Romney anyway.
If he could find a minority businessman to run with, great. Cain actually would make sense for Romney under this strategy, although given the bad blood, and the almost certainty that Romney's camp is behind the sexual harassment stuff, I doubt it could happen.

24. I have to agree with that pick--IF Romney takes the nom. |
|
If Huntsman is the last man standing after scandal and brutalizing amongst the "frontrunners," then who knows? Rubio would still be a good fit....

5. I think they'll have to pick a right-wing nutter... |
|
Because Romney is a liberal to most of the Republican party.
I think they'll have to select a far-right, extremist nutbag to placate the far-right, extremist nutbag wing of the party.
I'm betting on Bachman. Either that or the Tasmanian Devil. It could go either way.

And, by next summer, nobody will care about the Tea Party anymore.

Hopefully he will convince many right wingers to sit home come November 2012.

17. I think Romney will be tough to beat |
|
While he does have drawbacks, Romney isn't viewed as a complete tea-bag fanatic. And, if he picks Pawlenty, that will hurt Obama in both the northeast and the midwest. Obama's problem is the economy, specifically the high unemployment. Obama won't win any southern states next year and with recent shifts in the electoral college once again favoring the red states, the Obama/Biden ticket will be hard-pressed to reach the magic number of 270.

to the fundies, and they may well be the largest part of the Repuke base.
Also, what does TPaw add to a Romney ticket? Zero, nothing, nada. Paws is totally so 2010.

Voters will reject Romney because of he took over so companies and threw the employees under the bus.
We saw this in California in the last state elections. Those associated with businesses that laid off a lot of employees were rejected.
So, in a sense, what Romney expects to be his advantages -- his wealth and his business background -- will be huge disadvantages.

are advantages will be more true in the general elction than in the Republican primaries.

20. Romney? Likely. Pawlenty? Not so likely. |
|
Obama winning?
I certainly hope so and the last three months seem to have helped, but there's still a year to go.
I had predicted Romney (OK called it a guess) back in August. That guess looks more and more likely all the time.
As of ten days ago I would have picked Cain for VP--no more.
Pawlenty, maybe, but there are lots of possibilities. I don't think a Romney/Pawlenty ticket would play well with the GOP base, and I think the GOP will try to placate the base with someone who talks a lot of red meat--a woman or a minority if possible, but Bachmann (and Palin) have made themselves looks a bit too crazy and too independent of the party financiers and fixers, and Cain's meltdown makes him look awful including awful to GOP primary voters.
I don't know, but I'm paying attention and getting more hopeful.
