The florist who spent years exchanging Christmas cards with Col Gaddafi
An 81-year-old Jewish florist from Brooklyn spent several years exchanging Christmas cards and letters with Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

Louis Schlamowitz also received notes and signed photographs and Christmas cards from the late Libyan dictator.

The florist told reporters that he was sad about the manner of his unusual penpal’s death.

Mr Schlamowitz said: “I felt bad about the way he was killed. He should have stepped down like the president of Egypt.

Mr Schlamowitz, whose hobby is corresponding with famous figures, first sent letters to Col Gaddafi in the late 1960s, to congratulate him on taking power.
