NEW YORK, NY - NOVEMBER 02: Members of the New York City chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War and dozens of other uniformed veterans known as 'Veterans of the 99%' pause in front of the New York Stock Exchange while marching from Vietnam Veterans Plaza to Zucotti Park where the Occupy Wall Street movement is centered on November 2, 2011 in New York City. The veterans groups, which feature current and former members of the United States military, marched in support of Occupy Wall Street and to pay homage to Scott Olsen, a former Marine and Iraq War vet who sustained a skull fracture after he was injured by police at an Occupy Oakland protest.

43. when I see the Vietnam insignia, I want to cry

my ex was a Recon Marine in Vietnam; later a drill seargent. An amazing and brave man with a good heart....but we had to split up this summer, mainly for two reasons:
He has sudden, extreme rage attacks and he goes off on hateful Limbaugh-esque rants, awful stuff about Obama, crazy garbage....... can't have rational discussion.

When I see liberal vets I want to cry for what "could have been".

NO one serves alone - the family always serves right along with us.

There are lots of vets who cannot get completely home - or have been hurt too badly by service to completely recover.

Somehow I find his presence especially touching; I don't know why, maybe because he's earned the right to sit down with his feet up, but instead he's out there with all these young men and women standing up for their future and ours.
