John McCain eyes barring retirees from Tricare Prime
By Rick Maze

The Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, the Super Committee, now has to contend with Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) feasting his eyes on veterans’ benefits.

McCain who is not a member of the Super Committee, for no apparent reason than spite at Pres. Obama who is vowing to protect veterans’ benefits, is talking up his radical proposal that could be devastating to veterans and active-duty family members, barring military retirees from signing up for Tricare Prime, the least expensive Tricare option available.

The Super Committee has until November 23, 2011 to make its recommendations. And Congress has until December 23, 2011 to vote on the recommendations or face massive cuts.

The congressional panel tasked with making deficit-reduction decisions is facing sharply conflicting views on whether military retirement and health benefits should be put on the chopping block.

In the mix is a radical proposal from Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., that would have potentially far-reaching effects on the health care of retirees and active-duty family members. McCain, ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, has proposed barring military retirees from signing up for Tricare Prime, the least expensive Tricare option available to them.

The proposal is drawn from a March 2011 report from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office on ways to reduce the federal deficit.

.............

And they wonder why more Veterans are committing suicide? This is NOT good and it needs to be circulated widely that this Repub Veteran and ex-Prisoner of War, John McCain, is the one proposing it while President Obama is trying to save or improve benefits for Veterans!

Is it a civil war if it's a country and its military against a few thousand rich people and their mercenaries?

9. No they don't care about veterans or
more specifically the benefits that those veterans earned and were promised upon their retirement. One of the key promises was that your healthcare would be free for life along with a pension.

He's also proposing enrollment fees for Tricare for Life, which paid percentage coverage for healthcosts. That has been the only free healthcare remaining and now he's proposing yearly fees for that.

This is what the repubs are good at. They champion lower taxes while inventing or raising fees. They disguise their taxes with the term "fees".

10. Obama is already attacking Tricare for retired military pensioners.

It makes sense that Republicans would only up the ante.

Under the President's proposal to the Super Theft Committee, retired military pensioners will have to pay annual fees of hundreds of dollars for their Tricare coverage. In addition, many prescription copays would be increased from $9 to about $45 per prescription. And the President's plan indicates that these costs will continue to be raised on a regular basis in the future in order to stay commensurate with the private insurance plans like Blue Cross Blue Shield.

The serviceman's widow I was talking to about this was extremely upset. She takes multiple medications and lives on a very small pension (controlled by CPI, which will likely be chained...). She is now looking at having to pay hundreds of dollars per month for care that was promised free to them in exchange for their life of over 30 years moving every 18 months from military base to military base.

Tax breaks for the rich, and the military industrial complex. Those are our priorities, but the pensions and safety nets that support Americans have to go. The poor, the elderly, now veterans and their families. There seems to be nobody in either party protecting us from our government now.

14. I would say they really only love the DEAD veterans...
Just like they really only love the pre-born

So unless you're pre-born or dead, you're basically screwed.
