You have to click on the link to see the pictures, they are jpg so they take up a lot of space if I try to post them.

City workers destroyed numerous tents and shelters on G street today. The photos below show one example of what took place as City of Fresno sanitation workers destroyed homeless shelters on the east side of G street (south of Ventura). What is somewhat unique about this attack is that only hours before, State of California workers had posted notices giving the residents extra time to move out.

A series of photos shows the destruction that took place on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 on G street south of Ventura in downtown Fresno. This is part of a campaign by the City of Fresno to destroy all of the homeless encampments in this city over a two week period. This is the end of week 1. There will be a lot more destruction of homeless people’s property, unless the people, the law, or government officials stop it.

The series of photos below illustrates that the City of Fresno were taking and immediately destroying homeless peoples property. If a judge agrees that the city is in violation of the Federal Court Order ( see: http://www.aclunc.org/cases/closed_cases/asset_upload_file890_8469.pdf ), a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) could be issued to stop further attacks against the homeless and their property.

A letter to the mayor of the City of Fresno, from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), detailing the potential violations of the court order is in the link.

A sign gave the owners of this structure 5 more days to move out. It had been posted earlier in the day by Caltrans workers from the State of California, who have jurisdiction under the overpass.

Without regard to the Federal Court Order not to destroy homeless people’s property ( see: http://www.aclunc.org/cases/closed_cases/asset_upload_file890_8469.pdf ) or the sign giving the resident of this shelter until November 7, 2011 to leave, this bulldozer moves in to destroy this structure.

Dismantling these shelters took some time. It took both the bulldozer and workers on the ground to destroy them.

Here you can see city workers throwing out what looks like a yoga mat, bicycle tires, and a mattress and box springs.

City of Fresno sanitation workers were sent to the homeless encampment on G street today where they destroyed several peoples shelters. The following series of photos documents the destruction of one tent in the G street encampment. The destruction led to a confrontation where a group of homeless men (left) told the city workers to leave their homes alone

This man is directing city sanitation workers, telling them which tents and shelters to destroy. Even though the tent behind him has a sign that clearly identifies it as the property of “Big John” (enlarge the photo and you can read the sign), this man told the city to destroy it, which they did. This photo shows him pointing to the shelter next door and telling them to destroy it too.

This photo shows the City of Fresno bulldozer zeroing in on Big John’s tent. The bulldozer’s claw reaches down, and destroys the tent.
Big John’s tent and all of its contents are now in the claw of the bulldozer and being pulled off the sidewalk.

The bulldozer now has Big John’s tent on the street and is about to put it into the waiting garbage truck.

Here you can see Big John’s tent, clothes, and other possessions being picked up and heading for the garbage truck.

That is the last anyone will see of John’s tent, clothes, and other property. The Federal Court Order said the City of Fresno had to store homeless people’s property for 90 days. The city posted notices saying the homeless people could pick up their property for 90 days after the “clean up.” Big John even put his name on the tent, so he could more easily find it, if it was taken by the city. Will a TRO result from this wanton disregard of the Federal Court Order? Stay tuned.

(of course the city and the local corp news that supports them, doesn't report it the same way. Hopefully with ALCU involved the truth will be exposed)

To see this last group of assaults on the Homeless. The City continues to give empty promises.. and in 6 months I'll be posting another similar assault on the Homeless in Fresno unless the STate or Feds step and stop the abuse on human and civil rights.

2. This is heartbreaking

Absolutely heartbreaking.

How can humans do this to other humans and sleep at night, knowing they have destroyed the only things these poor people own?

I am stunned at the city of Fresno and its cruel employees.

5. Do it enough times and eventually they'll leave the area..
You might recall the practice of giving homeless people bus tickets to other cities..

8. More pictures of the City of Fresno and Caltrans destroying the shelter and items of the Homeless
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2011/11/03/18697051.php

Look at the 1st picture and tell me ... does that look like a druggie (not that think a drunk or druggie has a certain look).

She tries to stop the bulldozer from trashing her tent and items but it is too late.

"I had a couple of interesting conversations with city workers today. My overall impression is that nobody wants to be doing this and nobody thinks it will result in anything other than displacing the homeless. One Fresno police officer told me that he felt bad, because these people have nowhere to go. He explained that he is just following orders and that this is not a solution to the problem. A city sanitation worker told me that they were trying to comply with the mandate of the federal court order. He said they were only destroying the shelters if the owner said they could or if it was abandoned. They did seem to pack up more property and put it into storage than in previous days, but there was still obvious destruction of property taking place, as can be seen in the photos below."

9. Even the Fed HUD Rep in Fresno is allowing this to happen
Edited on Thu Nov-03-11 11:49 PM by annm4peace
I was very surprised to find out even the Feds are behind this abuse and irresponsible behavior.

Does Fed HUD also support the Developers at the expense of those who are Homeless? It is shameful

Here is what I found out:
Fresno was selected as one of 6 places in the US to have a White House office to coordinate federal programs. It is call Strong Cities, Strong Communities (SC2).
http://www.fresno.gov/News/PressReleases/2011/New+Federal+Partnership.htm

But I can't seem to find out info on how these Federal individuals are. I also can't figure out how abusing the Homeless is suppose to help (yeah i know it helps the 1%).

Here is the White House page on it:
ttp://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2011/07/11/supporting-strong-cities-and-strong-communities-around-country

I couldn't find a contact email for the Domestic Adviser, so all I could find is the White House contact
