Be careful at Waffle Houses. Some weird s*** goes on there besides plotting insurrection.
These are just a few of the headlines I found Googling 'Waffle House crime.' I left out the eleventy billion robberies. Other places have problems too, but on the weird scale, Waffle Houses beat them all. Those 4 old coots picked an apropos place to plan. I hope all Waffle Houses have cameras recording in all directions or live streaming to police departments.

15. I'd wager there's trans fats in the batter mix as well
so even if you skipped the oleo topping - and where's the fun in eating pancakes without the flavor of butter, even if it's artificial - you'd get loads of trans fats. I eat breakfast out occasionally, but take a pass on the pancakes. I make my own from scratch, and there's no trans fats in those beauties!

64. I ate at a Waffle House
once in N. KY. Now only was the food awful, but I got the most distressful feeling while I was there.

There is something 'wrong' with the place. I'll have to find out who owns these restaurants....but I figured they were Pit Stops for the Drug Cartels and Human Trafficking.

Seriously, even when I drive by one of them, I get a very uneasy feeling. I'll never go in again....they're evil, like Cheney.

11. I have a funny Waffle House story....
When we first moved to Raleigh back in 1992, we went to a WH Sunday AM for breakfast. So we were sitting there anticipating our unhealthy but tasty breakfast - 8 AM we hear a sound - Kate Smith singing God Bless America on the loudspeakers - everyone stands up. We really didn't know what to think.....we moved to NC from PA - and that may have been the moment that it hit us that things would be different in NC!

nearly 20 years and it still makes us laugh!

62. I remember walking into one at 3AM in Alabama once...
... or was it Florida. I don't remember because it was 20 years ago and my job put me on the road 24/7/365. It all kinda blurs after a while. Anyway I was on the job and didn't get finished at the recording studio until late and needed some grub.

So I walked in and almost immediately walked back out because there was this dude sitting there with a banjo noodling out dueling banjos. Luckily I got over my deliverance flashback and sat down and ate. It turned out he was a local picker and put on a pretty good show. I went and saw him and his bluegrass band that weekend.

19. I had an intersting moment with a Teabagger in Waffle House last week
The guy played that Lee Greenwood Proud to Be an American song THREE times in a row on the jukebox. During the third play, he walked over to my table and asked me if I knew why he was playing it. I told him that I assumed he must really like that song and then went back to eating. Well, he didn't take the hint that I wasn't into talking to him and launched into a tirade about how Barack Hussein Obama hates America, banned the Bible, banned the Constitution, taken all the guns, raised all the taxes and killed the economy. He finished by telling me that Barack Hussein Obama "passed a law banning the American flag from flying over the White House" and that he plays that song "to spite that sonofabitch".

I had my children with me, so I simply bid him good day and wished him much happiness in his life, but am still really curious why he selected me for his tirade.

It's sort of an initiation that a crazy redneck has to do something odd when you go in one. Once you get used to it, even with your kids (I've been taken there since I was a child) it's pretty entertaining.

You probably looked like you were from out of town.

It could have also been that he got off of his medication, and that was the cheapest place to eat in town that was still open.

Waffle House probably isn't exceptional in having an incident occur there once in a while.

A while back, we had a "meat thermometer attack" at my local movie theater. Someone complained about a theatergoer talking on a cell phone and, well...one thing led to another (including the meat thermometer stabbing).

The best comment I saw about it, in a discussion of why someone would bring a meat thermometer to a movie theater, was from someone saying he always carries one--because "You never know when someone's going to ask you if his meat is done." :)

without a Throwing Up At Waffle House incident. Apparently if you're used to eating Actual Food and not beigey-grey greasy fried grease, that stuff does untoward things to your digestive tract. Quickly.

So between the crime wave and the projectile vomiting Californians, I'm not sure what the appeal is.

And most of those are the waitresses beating up customers who don't stand for Kate Smith :)

Great Bill Hicks bit on his Waffle House experience:

What a great and insightful comic. We lost him way too soon.

56. If you're in a band in the South you are required by law to go

to Waffle House after late-night gigs. Who the hell else is going to be open? I've met my son's band stumbling out of the Awful Waffle as my band was staggering in...

And you should hear my sister tell the story about the time she was at an Awful Waffle on Christams Eve. The waitress and the grill cook were screaming and throwing food at each other, some customers were getting in a fist fight and meanwhile the jukebox was playing "Waffle House Christmas" over and over again.

"I went to a fight and a Waffle House broke out" is the saying. But I have an actual real Waffle House sign, imitation brass, "Welcome to The Waffle House," from the one nearest me. The biz was bought by another franchise, so one of my son's bandmates who was manager there snagged it for me :) It's a prized possession.

I will never stop going to the Awful Waffle...

Make sure you aren't eating or drinking while viewing the slideshow, otherwise your food and beverage will end up on your computer screen as you roll on the floor laughing.

73. That was classic Southern redneck and Waffle House!
Did you see that bunch waiting for the bouquet when the bride tossed it? I wish they had taken a few more pictures of that action. Probably some knives and brass knuckles.....

Edited on Thu Nov-03-11 01:24 PM by jberryhill

I never set foot in one and probably never will.

My understanding is they have a color problem.

79. Please, don't even start that
In my area, they would lose half their customers. Seriously, why would you say such a thing with an obvious intent to stir up racial discontent? Black and white families eat together at WH where I am. We don't have much of a Latino population, but I brought my Chinese nieces there, too.

82. After a chain gets sued enough times, I tend to take note

Why would I say something like that?

Because they have a stellar history of doing that.

Take a peek:

Those were all figments of someone's imagination?
