United States Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) is expected to announce Wednesday that he will not seek a 5th term in 2012, Daily Ructions has learned. Lieberman has invited supporters to an event at the Marriott hotel in Stamford Wednesday afternoon for his announcement.

USA Today says Susan Bysiewicz intends to run for the seat. A real Democrat!

In celebration: Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians play Happy Days Are Here Again!

46. Wow, if I'd thought it would make you that happy, I could have told you earlier
Like, when he created Connecticut for Lieberman. Not, notice, Lieberman for Connecticut. Amazingly self serving, but I knew then that if he got the seat back, it was his last term. He knew, I knew. We should have let you know.

42. I agree. I wanted him to lose in an election
Edited on Tue Jan-18-11 04:28 PM by TlalocW
Like I said in another thread, that SOB needs to go to his dying day knowing that his political career was ended because he was rejected by the voters. Not running again (because he knows he has no chance) gives him too many outs to spin it as something positive about himself... spend more time with family, generously turning over the reins to a new generation, etc.

I want him and McCain sitting in rocking chairs, yelling at kids to get off their yard while dwelling for the rest of their days that their ends came because voters didn't like them, and I hope it eats them up inside.

23. No. Lamont was quoted in the NY Times that he wouldn't have wanted to be a senator after all,
that he was better suited to being governor (this was right before the primary with Malloy).

I was so pissed off I made my mind up and voted for Malloy in the primary and of course in the general against that thug, Foley. I had supported and volunteered for Lamont in 06 and I thought his remark was incredibly stupid and arrogant.

22. good news
glad to get rid of him. He probably saw the poll numbers and knew he had no shot.

However, I'm not sure Bysiewicz is the one to replace him - she was leading in the polls for the governor's race, then dropped out unexpectedly to run for CT Attorney General, only to have the courts decide she wasn't qualified to be AG. Then, we had the fiasco in Bridgeport with the lack of ballots in a Democratic stronghold... she did not have a good year last year.

I've heard Chris Murphy and Joe Courtney may have some interest. I don't think Ned Lamont will run again after his attempt to win the governorship flamed out last year.

And, will Republics nominate somebody like Linda McMahon again - or, another big bucks self-funding type like Tom Foley or Peter Schiff?

could be one of the few Senate pickup opportunities for Democrats in 2012.

27. I hope Susan B. does NOT run. She has some problems that surfaced when
she wanted to run for AG. She embarrassed herself badly.

I hear that Ted, Jr. is interested. Good pick, if he is. Diane Farrell would be good too but she has a really good job now and may not be interested...

38. He knows he has ticked off his Democratic and even most of his Independent
constituents to the point that he would probably suffer an embarrassing defeat if he ran again. Instead, he will simply climb aboard the corporate gravy train to be rewarded for carrying their water and blocking truly progressive legislation and health care reform.
