Broken democracy, tone deaf/bought off politicians major reason for OWS.
People weren't marching and camping in the streets en masse demanding a just economic playing field during the era of the great middle class (roughly from the post WW II era up to the late 1970's) because the New Deal put in place by FDR and a Progressive majority ensured a level playing field.

That playing field has been bulldozed.

Unfortunately many well intentioned people in America fall victim to right-wing propaganda and vote against their own best interests. Too many people have removed themselves from the political process not wanting to be bothered with the issues because they are too busy with their own lives, whether it be raising children or working umpteen different jobs to make ends meet, to get involved.

Things have to hit home personally, in many cases, for them to awaken to the crisis.

The folks occupying Wall Street and others are doing more for American "freedom" than any military occupation of Iraq or Afghanistan.

1. so simple, so true
...we will never have the 'good old days' like the original middle class enjoyed...they just consumed blindly with no consciousness of how they were cogs in the machine or how they fed the beast daily.

we are awake now,not only has the playing field been bulldozed, but there is no more willingness to play the game.

The people are awake, the beast is being slowly starved, and we will never allow it to return.

2. Agreed. The politicians in both parties are working against the people's will
that OWS has highlighted. They want to co-opt, neuter, or kill OWS.
Sure, we will get pretty talk, trying to get some votes or have us 'stand down', but what have they done?
They HAVE to pretend, kill or dismiss OWS, to serve their corporate masters.

3. Money talks, you know what walks.....

until money is out of politics, we get the best democracy corporations can buy. Until then, there will be damn near a civil war in the streets if things keep going the way they are going. And by that I mean by continued "trickle-down", "free trade", "do you want fries with that?" economics.

Taco Bell wages don't pay the mortgage and retraining at the community college for a new job that doesn't exist won't cut it.

We all can't be accountants, lawyers and banksters.
