And the band played on...
Last night I was watching the feed from Oakland. I saw one of the most beautiful and incongruous things I have seen in my life. The police, Alameda Sheriffs, was formed in a line, ready to smash. Ten feet from them was a band playing labor songs. This was still in between the two uses of gas and bullets and flashbangs. It was a crazy thing that if I wrote into a novel or a script, I doubt anybody would ever believe. Then there was the person going back and forth in a wheelchair, and a candle.

Just sharing a moment in time... Oh and yes, we are watching...

4. I saw that, they were decent players,..

...although some of the vocals from the people joining in were, uhmm, a little "pitchy," so to speak.

My son, who lives in and attends an art college in Oakland, was with the protest through the day, and last night, when the cops attacked again.

He saw some of the isolated incidents of obvious provocateurs (he said they were people dressed in black, surprise!) throwing stuff at the cops.

He called me around 2am to tell me he and his roommates were all back home safe.

Edited to add a missing word.
