CLEVELAND - Northeast Ohio suburbs being hit hard by increasing poverty.
A new study by the Brookings Institution found that 13 Northeast Ohio suburban areas had poverty rates over 40 percent.
And the families behind those numbers are showing up asking for help for the first time ever in record numbers at area suburban food pantries.
There’s now a shortage of donated beds, stoves and food at the Church Street Ministries in Berea.
Church Street’s Dave Worsencroft said families requesting help in the suburbs doubled in just the last year. People are losing jobs, losing houses, or having work hours cut to part time at a disturbing pace.
