Fees for inactive accounts
Drop interest in half on checking with using debit card now instead of 12 each month must use 30 times in a month to get higher interest

no more life coverage on savings
they own your accounts if you are in default on anything else and will get there money except ira and something else

1. Just this week I had my mother close her accounts at Sun Coast Credit Union & move them to my bank.
That credit union sucks & I made sure they knew it.

7. Some banks are pretty good-- yes, better than some credit unions.
If you are lucky enough to live in a community where there are still several options of locally-owned banks, you may be able to find one.

Some credit unions do, indeed, suck.

Some banks are pretty darn good.

The key is: How local are they? How big are they?

Local and middle-sized is the golden formula, usually.

opinionatedly,
Bright

2. People need to be careful about putting all their eggs in one basket...
... and borrowing where their savings accounts are located.

You don't like to think of it but bad things DO happen and a credit union is MORE likely to exercise "right of set-off" and take your liquid accounts. They are small and can't absorb losses and will look to mitigate.

6. My former credit union (in AZ) was incompetent . My bank
M&I is super wonderful, even now that they've been taken over by a Canadian bank (t least so far)
