Lots of finger pointing in Apache water main break

http://www.kswo.com/story/15939569/lots-of-finger-pointing-in-apache-water-main-break

-snip video-

A broken water main cut off water to the town of Apache for most of the day Wednesday. It even forced them to close school early and shut several businesses down.

The break happened around 11:30 a.m. along Meyers Rd. Most of the time, water main breaks are blamed on old pipes or shifting soil, but this one was caused by human error.

A city employee tells 7News a crew from Pioneer Telephone was installing cable this morning and mistakenly bore through the city's water main. But the phone company blamed the city, saying that the city told them there was no water main at that site. In fact, Pioneer says city crews were there when the main burst.

7News asked Pioneer Telephone and Apache how much it will cost to fix the water main. They were unable to give us an estimate. Pioneer says although they are not legally liable, they will work with Apache until the problem is fixed.

seems like, in alot of these reports, the pipe locations have not been recorded or not recorded in the correct place.

turns out to be a costly human mistake.
