Bullcrap toon. And it's not gonna work

Sorry scumbag, but Americans will not be shamed by fake economic comparisons with other countries. We know what we had when we were growing up, and we know who took it away.

Because they certainly aren't stopping themselves, are they?

As a feminist I am oh so very familiar with that distinctly idiotic tactic.

6. It looks like the latest meme to discredit OWS
There was another guy around here harping about how the "real" 99% were people in other countries, and that Americans were all the 1%. Naturally, he turned out to be a right winger saying that everyone should get a job.

Looks like his website is listed. Nothing wrong with visiting him and telling him how we feel about him pandering to the people who are desperately trying everything they can think of to shut OWS down.

8. Aren't the IMF and World Banks responsible for much of the trouble in Africa
among other nations? "Confessions of an Economic Hitman"... It's the same people now turning their teeth upon Spain, Portugal, Greece, and other countries.

Again, it's the bankers. Always the bankers. All this cartoon does is remind us who is the problem, and what they leave behind them.

19. That's it
Until we're living in a mud hut in a barren wasteland, we don't have a legitimate complaint. Sure, we can see that we're headed there, but until it actually happens, keep your lip buttoned and love your corporate overlords. Love them, I say, or their feelings will be hurt!

18. I don't get the point--some people actually have it worse? No shit, Sherlock!
No matter where you go, you'll always find someone who is worse off if you just look round a bit. It's not a fucking contest!

What the idiot doesn't consider is that much of the contributions to aid programs for Africa and other beleaguered nations that come from the US come from that very "middle class" this guy is snarking at.

I get the impression that "gary varvel" is not terribly bright. Since his shit is featured at "Townhall dot com" that's pretty much a given.

I have to see it nearly every time I do a toon roundup. And 90% of the time it is RW crap. The other 10% he is usually trying to attack one of the 'non-favored' Republican candidates.

25. Why do they think that it's okay for people ANYWHERE
to live in poverty when there are enough resources on this planet to prevent it?

The Goals of this movement are not just about the middle-class here, they are about inequality caused by the corruption of the financial institutions which has caused much of the poverty around the world over the centuries of Imperialism driven by money and power.

Each time we buy cheap foreign made products, we are part of the problem but with laws forcing Corporations to abide by labor and minimum wage standards even if they are operating outside this country, those inequalities can begin to diminish.

Guess they didn't know this is a Global Movement to finally start addressing these problems which for far too long, have not been addressed.

Stupid cartoon, and a perfect example of the results of a corporate media pushing the acceptance of these inequities, not just here, but Globally. And too stupid to realize how manipulated they are.

In fact, this cartoon COULD be used to make some points about the Global Inequities caused by Wall Street corruption, and to demonstrate how acceptable they became to the ignorant victims of the Corporate Media who are unable or unwilling to do their own thinking.

26. False equivalency - Cream of Wheat for Republicans.
Edited on Fri Nov-04-11 01:23 PM by HughBeaumont
It's funny how America's poor never get compared to, say, Germany or Sweden's poor. No, instead, America's poor gets put up against Djibouti's or Zimbabwe's poor by the RW (and, sadly, by some on this board). Maybe Varvel the Barbell needs to read this:

30. Goose - Gander
If the implication is that the system is fine because the US poor have it good compared to many third world folks living in mud huts, then we should apply the same standard to the US rich. We should tax the rich for every dollar they have over being able to buy a stone hut, a bike, a radio, and a herd of goats. Hey, you'd still be considered rich in Somalia.

These rightee arguments are making the movie Forrest Gump look more and more like the story of the second coming of Einstein.
