because for those people it messes with their head, did they miss out on something good, a chance at finding true fellowship and happiness?:)

11. Sometimes Du'ers are quick to shoot first |
|
and (not) ask questions later. Some new posters are here in earnest, but a rude reception isn't likely to leave them feeling like they've missed out on true fellowship and happiness should they fall afoul of DU's self appointed troll-police.

10. You know, sometimes maybe they don't deserve |
|
the pizza. When new posters express unpopular opinions, all the rules about civility go out the window. Sometimes new posters are looking for new information, even while bringing old preconceptions with them. Some are persuadable if approached in the right way. In other words, they are looking to replace those old preconceptions. Of course, there are genuine trolls/freepers, but what harm does it do to be polite? If it were me, I'd ban the perpetually rude as well.

I seem to recall seeing a lot more of the sarcastic types of "welcome" than I do the genuine type. Your remarks serve us well.

14. The nice new people, of whom there are many |
|
are pretty easy to spot. The trollish nutjobs, like the one who got TS'd this morning, are too. There are a few kind of slippery characters, but most DUers are honest and thoughtful folk.

the waving smilie in too. Everyone did it when some newbie was spotted. It was great.

I remember being new.
I was chastised and made out to be a freeper. I stuck with it, but it wasn't pleasant.
I agree... be nice to newbies!
