A leading cleric in the Russian Orthodox Church is under fire for saying that women who wear miniskirts and get drunk should not be surprised if they are raped.

Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, the head of the Church's department for relations between the church and society, complained that Russian women dressed like strippers.

He suggested a nationwide code should be introduced to ensure both genders dressed more conservatively.

"If she (a woman) is wearing a miniskirt, it is provocative," he said. "If she is drunk at the same time then she is even more provocative, and if she herself is actively seeking contact with people and is then surprised when that contact ends in rape, she is wrong."

Title should be "Dinosaur discovered in Russia". In other news, It's unknown why church attendance among young people is declining...

1. Yeah, miniskirts promote rape in the same way that Ferraris promote high-speed traffic collisions
Do I really have to elaborate on the stupidity of that priest's statement?

2. Yeah, it's her fault like the patent leather shoes
that act as a mirror up her skirt. So girls shouldn't complain if the boys make dirty remarks if they wear patent leather shoes. :eyes:

5. Agree conditionally, "Miniskirts provoke rape" ONLY if the assailant is an immoral, depraved, POS.

8. What a douche
Massive alcohol consumption by men has WAY more to do with it. Hell, enough booze, and the woman could be wearing a full burka, for Pete's sake!

They were so much better off without it.

13. So no freedom is better?
I fail to see how prohibiting one to have religion is good for everyone.

19. It comes from that apple/snake temptation by woman of poor Adam of the fig leaf story
Another words men would be celibate monks if women didn't tempt them with the evils of the flesh. How they expected humans to procreate is beyond me if sex is all women tempting men, but anyhow that is how they conclude that rape victims are actually the rapists and the poor rapist is really the victim, twisted. Works well for Palin followers.

20. Rape isn't about skirts. It's an assault.
It's about physical power and violence. I suggest new clothing for this priest, a dunce cap.
