Today on FB I posted a challenge to those of my family and friends who still support the GOP...
Edited on Sat Nov-05-11 09:08 PM by markpkessinger
I shared two links today on Facebook, the first to an article about the Michigan GOP's insertion, into the anti-bullying legislation before it, language that creates a carve-out if the bully can provide "a religious or moral reason" for the bullying. The second link is to the very eloquent response by Michigan Democratic Senator Gretchen Whitmer I ended my comment about the link with a bit of a challenge. Here is what I wrote:

I cannot begin to say how enraged I am by this! Essentially, the Michigan GOP took a much-needed anti-bullying bill and created a carve-out if the bully can provide a "religious or moral" reason for the bullying. I mean, hey, we can't let a little thing like teen suicides stand in the way of some right-wing evangelical's cretinous spawn to be a bigoted asshole, now can we?!

And to those of my family and friends who continue to support the GOP, but who do not support this kind of nonsense, I ask you: when do reasonable, moderate folks like you begin to stand up to this kind of shit? Whether you want to see it or not, THIS is what today's GOP has become!

It will be interesting to see if I get any response.

1. The humanity test for independent voters in MI: Will you re-elect those who voted FOR this?
Edited on Sat Nov-05-11 09:19 PM by alp227
If you do so KNOWING that they did, wow...

(My Q was targeted towards independents since they'll be the ones who decide between candidates unlike those already registered with party. Or maybe a few Rockefeller Republicans up there who still miss Gerald Ford and George Romney, Mitt's father who ran in the '64 primary as the moderate challenger to Barry Goldwater. George also was governor of Michigan during most of the '60s.)

8. Bullying is anti-socialist behaviour that underscores the idea that "might makes right".
Isn't this what Republicanism is all about? They keep calling us 'socialists'. By inference, they have to be anti-socialists. Can you name one country that flourished with a nation of anti-socialists? A bully is, by nature, an anti-socialist who uses force to intimidate others. No surprise to me that Republicans want to encourage this type of behavior. Todays schoolyard bullies are tomorrow's Young Republicans.
