Amateur boxer dies in unsanctoned match at "Guts Church" family sues
The family of a former University of Tulsa football player is suing the church where 24-year-old George Clinkscale III died during an unsanctioned boxing match. He left behind a 2-year-old daughter and a fiancée, who gave birth to his second child two weeks ago.

"I would say this is one of the most remarkable kids you would ever know," said his father, George Clinkscale II, who lives in Texas. "He's a father's dream."

The family is seeking at least $75,000 in damages from the church and two of the pastors, Bill Scheer and wife Sandra.

Guts Church, a Christian house of worship claiming to have "some of the best youth and outreach programs in the country," has been promoting "Fight Night" -- a boxing match held in the church's parking lot -- for six years.

IMHO he was an adult and knows the risks. But Guts church - Wow.

2. The loss of life is always sad.
However, there does not seem to be a reason to blame anyone for this terrible accident. Boxing is a horrible sport. Two people in a small ring (although it is square) and the match is either timed out or when one person hurts the other one so bad they have to stop fighting. Unless, the man was drugged and forced to box, I do not see how his family can blame anyone. I see it as just a tragic accident.

5. Who was his opponent? Mickey from Snatch?
That's terrible, but agree with OP and first replyer, unless there was dirty tactics, no fault can be attributed. And I bet both the church and the opponent are horrified

6. Unless the church broke some law regarding boxing, they're not to blame, but Jesus, the guys...
at the local synod level won't even allow my mom's church to host bingo games, how the hell do they find people willing to sign off on boxing?

7. "how the hell do they find people willing to sign off on boxing?"
They probably make the fighters sign a liability waiver.

8. That's awfully sad for the family.
I also feel sorry for his opponent. He's going to feel like shit for the rest of his life.

9. If he's evangelical, then he is forgiven and all is good with the world.
Guts church? Boxing matches in the parking lot?

WTF?
