Ohio Republican Wants To Keep HIS Pay Because: "Republicans (unlike Democrats) EARN Their Pay"
Edited on Sun Nov-06-11 09:37 AM by kpete
In Ohio labor fight, shared sacrifice for thee, but not for me
By Greg Sargent

With the Ohio labor referendum coming to a vote in two days — and with the Occupy Wall Street protests continuing — I wanted to point you to something that neatly captures what all this is really about:

In a recent interview, a top Ohio Republican defended this in a curiously belligerent way, one that may reverberate in the race’s final days: He claimed lawmakers don’t need to take a pay cut in the spirit of shared sacrifice, because “I earn my pay,” adding: “Republicans earn their money.”

“Because it’s not merited. I earn my pay. I think that was just political baloney. So they can say in an ad, `Gee , you know, they didn’t support a pay cut.’ Well, no, I don’t support a pay cut. Republicans earn their money. Apparently Democrats don’t. They feel they should be paid less. That may be true. Maybe we’ll just cut the Democrats’ pay.”

GOP state Rep. Lou Blessing — a prominent Republican voice in this fight, as the Speaker Pro Tempore of the Ohio House of Representatives — made the claim during an interview with Ohio public radio, audio of which is right here.

1. I am issuing a challenge to any and all repukes
Do what I do for a living and then tell me the repukes are the only one's who "earn their pay". Yeah, I know he was talking about lawmakers, but it sure sounds like he said that repukes and only repukes earn their money by working for it. So once again, I challenge any and all repukes to do manual labor and have knowledge of the entire operation, computers and all, such as I am required to do, and then tell me that Dems don't earn our money.

2. Pay cuts, they don't want no stinkin' paycuts...
But the "guvment" sure is willing to make sure the rest of us get pay-cuts...more taxes or more fees. Except for the Millionaires...they get more tax breaks

3. Reason number 1,452,673,923 why I'm glad I no longer
live in Ohio. And reason number 2,413,988,644 why I'm sad that several family and friends are still stuck in that hellhole. You know Ohio is bad when South Dakota is preferable to it! Ohio republicans have always been a rather "special" breed, but that "breed" has really changed for the worse these past twenty years or so. As much of a PITA as he is, I'd certainly rather have our SD governor than that arrogant, thieving, lying, crooked, greedy sack of shit who currently occupies the OH governor's mansion, with emphasis on "occupies". At least our governor isn't coming after the middle and working classes with everything he's got.

And the teachers who dedicate their lives to teaching his children don't "earn" their pay? (Having grown up with teachers, who now have to give up most of their pensions to pay for my stepdad's nursing home care, I KNOW how hard they "earn" their meager pay) The firefighters and police officers who stand ready to give their lives every single fucking day of the year to protect his worthless, lazy ass don't "earn" their pay? I could go on and on, but I need to watch my blood pressure.

4. Where did this whole idea come from that liberals / progressives / democrats don't work?
Edited on Sun Nov-06-11 09:46 AM by MindPilot
It is a prima facie stupid stereotype with absolutely no basis in reality, yet it is a widely accepted fact in any right-wing discussion.Of all the broad brushes they could use to paint us in a negative light, that one is without a doubt, the dumbest.

5. It's not an idea.
It's meme. It's more like a virus than a thought.

14. It's an arrogant taunt that allows the 1% to justify stealing money from workers
Rethugs are blaming the victims of massive unemployment, caused by the unbridled looting, fraud, and impunity on Wall Street, along with the people who supposedly represent such corporate crime victims: the Democrats. Republicans also sadistically derive sexual pleasure from the suffering they inflict on the masses.

The broad-brush stereotyping and scapegoating of Democratic voters serves a purpose: to cover up the crimes of certain billionaires (can you say Kochroaches), corporations, and banksters acting above the law. Needless to say, the rethugs are on the banksters' payroll; they're PAID to look the other way while their corporate masters plunder, rape, and loot the little the 99% have left. Banksters also give the Turd Way and Blue Dog "Democrats" barely enough hush money to prevent them from exposing their ongoing financial criminal enterprise.

7. Is it possible that we've seen the lowest form of Republican thought
at this point? Is it possible that there is nowhere else to go but LEFT?
Getting even CLOSE to center is going to take effort. Moving left will
take that much more effort/time/money. What a fucking WASTE of time
and tax dollars these people have meted out.

16. You're an optimist.
When you "debate" with right-wingers, you learn the depths that their canards sink to. The longer you engage in it, the more you realize that they have this thinly veiled contempt for everyone who is not "them". It's deep and pervasive. When their true thoughts come to the surface, it's a truly disturbing experience.

You simply cannot counter crazy.

9. Unlike Mr. Blessing, I actually have scars to prove how hard I worked...
When I had a fucking job, that is. I have a ton of scars from thorny vines, insect bites, the spots where my pack rubbed my shoulders raw... I also have deformed toe nails from the ill-fitting muck boots and waders I wore all summer, as well as a whopping case of plantar fasciitis in both feet. Mr. Blessing, you can kiss my fat ass, and then you can go fuck yourself. You wouldn't last a half an hour in any of the jobs I have worked, you putrid sack of shit.

12. Allow me to correct you, Mr. "Blessing" (read: curse)
Unlike Democrats, Republicans steal money from children, their elders, and the sick, and then turn around and call it "earning their money."

17. "I earn my pay"? How fucking dare you!
You fucking Republican scum suckers run around calling liberals too lazy to get a job? I work 80 fucking hours a week to make less than half of what this asshole makes. And I actually WORK for my money.

The Republican definition of work is apparently sitting at a fucking desk flapping your gums all day while accomplishing nothing.

Mr Blessing, if I was as shitty at my job as you are at yours I would have been fired years ago. Go fuck yourself.

20. What a lousy piece of shit.
I'm sick of this meme that Democrats don't work. You know what? I work 40 hours a week just like the rest of America, and (gasp!) I vote liberal. I guess I must just be a brainwashed fool.
