Artificial Intelligence Took America's Jobs And It's Going To Take A Lot More
It's not just the recession that killed American employment.

And it's not just robots taking jobs from autoworkers.

The scary new dimension is artificial intelligence, which could replace as many as 50 million professional jobs according to a recent book by software entrepreneur Martin Ford. Because let's face it, Siri or something like Siri has more potential than your secretary, law clerk, radiologist or fund manager.

1. house cleaning, recycling, home health care, etc. look safe for now...
Of course, there is very little money in it, and robots don't wipe asses very well.

2. Wiping is so crude; streams of water and puffs of air do a better job

3. AI never calls in sick, doesn't need benefits, is never late, doesn't leave food in the frig.
People, fuck them, get a robot.

9. Because that worked out so well for the Luddites
hand-weaving jobs still went away and despite the efforts of the machine breakers mill owners just repaired or replaced their mechanical looms. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luddite

8. Some would call it progress. At the end of the 19th century there was opposition to the cotton gin
because it eliminated jobs. History is full of a lot of situations like this. I don't know what the answer is. I don't want to see anyone lose their job to mechanization or other types of so-called progress. But if history is any guide technological progress will continue whether we like it or not.

10. And cars replaced horses.
And shovels replaced sticks for digging.

Homes replaced caves.

Indoor plumbing replaced out houses.

Electric lights replaced oil lamps.

Humans are constantly finding ways to make things more "efficient".

Which is neither good or bad ... it just IS.

That is what we do.

The pony express was replaced by phone operators, who were later replaced by electronic switches.

At some point, robots will perform more surgeries than doctors, and with a much better success rate.

They key skill humans have is ADAPTABILITY.

And that is the one to make sure you have.
