A limited on the success (and present weakness) of OWS.
Edited on Sun Nov-06-11 09:58 PM by nadinbrzezinski
So here we are discussing either a commie outside a bank, ( I smell a plant) or photos that msnbc ran. I am shocked we are not discussing the Oakland OWS spokesperson interviewed by msnbc. Perhaps that's because you guys know better, OWS, does not have speaksers for it yet. So what was this young woman doing? Well she was going to Marx in very interesting ways. and she did look like a hippie.

Now to the point of this. The powerful know this movement has come to challenge. It has not been embraced, like the tea party, since it has not been successfully coopted. Telling the average fox viewers them are anti Murican dirty hippies who hate the country, that's not hard. They already believe it. So where are they planting these seeds? Our supposed lib'rul media. By even discussing this you are even giving more validity than you should. If any thinks all the corporate media will not construct storylines that are true and instead go for things like this, you haven't learned from history.

It don't matter, insofar as the flag is concerned, if we had propper colors ceremonies every morning and night with the pledge in propper formation...that would become they are a militia...or you have people doing all kinds of horrors to the flag. It really does not matter. In fact, you have to see another weakness, free access.

They are not going after you...and these tricks are older than the country isteld. They are going after those who watch that liberal msnbc or reading the liberal sfgate, to make them have doubts abouth them dirty commies. (shirt) or dirty drug added hippies

Realize what you are seeing are standard anti insurgency tactics.

Yes, in some places OWS is an insurgency and right now they are involved in a battle for hearts and...well minds. To anybody familiar, whether you read the field manual, or know enough history, this is transparent.

Now OWS is starting to react and some camps now are starting to have a media person. that's good...and certain things will not be allowed.

I just swear it always works because most of us are not aware of this. But as the movement evolves it will have to counter these pretty transparent efforts. By the way the latest is OWS is organic to al Qaida. They are desperate to find what works in this battle and you are in the cross fire.

3. I think it means you're saying the right things. I know that you know that
"unrecommending" being only a new tool in the old war you describe.

4. I know.
It is ancient. It's just the techniques that change. I could get all linguistic and Foucault but kiss works.

7. It's good there are enough 60s people still around to point out the traps
Experience counts. The 60s new left was somewhat contemptuous of the old left of their parents -- or maybe the old left was too beaten down by McCarthyism to have much of the old fighting spirit in them. But whatever the reason, there wasn't enough generational transfer of knowledge to overcome some of the obvious pitfalls.

That's not true this time. I've been amazed at how many people here at DU who have been passing as garden-variety progressives are suddenly coming out of the closet to say, "Yes, I was there 40 years ago, and this is what I learned." Now it's time to pass all those lessons on.
