the boy scout food drive is collecting food next saturday i know the boy scouts are not condoned in general here i was a scout and i dont feel it warped me my sons were both in scouting it didnt seem to turn them into religious nutjobs anyway even people you dont agree with can be right and next saturday the scouts will be right if you can spare a donation it will be used in your community this is for a good cause as all food collected stays in the area where it originates so the collected foods go to local pantries and food banks thanks for your time

I was a cub scout, boy scout and Eagle Scout. I can think of nothing better for a boy to do.
Scouting helped to shape my life as a boy. Will be forever in debt.

2. My son is an Eagle Scout. |
|
He got quite a bit out of the scouting program here.
Yes, there are things wrong with Boy Scouts. But the things that were right with it were very good for him.
He is vocal in his criticism of the Boy Scouts. If there is going to be any change in the program, people like him will make the changes. He is articulate and successful. His fellow scouts respect him.
I don't know if there will ever be change. I hope so.

3. People here who are critical of the boy scouts are because or their anti-gay stance. |
|
It's a valid reason. As valid as if the scouts were anti-Jew or anti-African American.

7. Do the scouts condone pedophelia? I'm thinking not. Any org that serves children |
|
will also attract pedophiles.

4. It's not that scouting turns kids into religious nutjobs. It's that it excludes kids on the basis |
|
of a religious nutjob agenda.
Better to donate food directly to your local food banks. Or better still, donate cash; they often can purchase in bulk in a way that individuals can't, thus stretching the number of people your donation can help.

11. hi iris i agree in part with you |
|
but next saturday some kid will be in your neighborhood most likely doing pick ups anyway. he,that kid i mean, just wants to help and to do something positive in his town.let him help a little and he may grow into a more aware responsible human.i have a soft spot in my heart for food banks i am not ashamed to say i have been food bank poor and i know for a fact not one person getting food the boy scouts collect will even know or ever likely care where it came from. the kid gets to know he did good and people are better for it.thats all he gets too except a sweaty day stomping around collecting the bags.a win/win on character building my dad would tell you. i can find some green beans and some mac and cheese for that. i doesnt support scouts it supports food banks

I didn't care much for the church we met in and our scoutmaster was a sadistic kook. He was an ex-marine DI and apparently needed to continue through retirement on us kids. LOL
I'll never for the rest of my life forget the first morning of our Winter Jamboree when we were awoken at 0630 hours to screams outside in the -5F degree weather. As I pulled back the tarp and poked my head out of the lean-to in the morning freeze, there was our feckless leader standing at the flagpole rubbing his rosy pink naked body with handfuls of freshly fallen snow. Before breakfast, we had to stand at silent attention before the colors for what seemed like a frostbitten hour while he came around and barked in our faces like Sgt Carter.
I swear, if they let us have arms we would have fragged him. Our lone Eagle Scout who went on to become a Denver Broncos linebacker could have guided us through the rest of the week just fine. Eventually, we heard there was a pedophile scoutmaster outed in camp from another Ohio troop. We dubbed them the lucky dogs.
Alas, that was many decades ago (sigh), and maybe the scouts just wasn't for me at the time, but people are hungry and have to eat. I promise I'll go find old Troop 25 and see what I can do. The Sarge is long dead now anyway.
Thanks for the heads up, I hope the drive is a great success.
