The media circus surrounding Herman Cain just got its third ring.

The celebrity gossip website Radar reports that Gloria Allred — yes, that one — will introduce America to a woman who says Cain harassed her in the past.



The woman, who will be the first to go public on Monday, sought Cain’s help with an employment issue and was allegedly sexually harassed by him. Allred and her client will discuss, in detail, what she alleges occurred with Cain.

in CA before his election as Governor. The right wing didn't believe their action hero would really grope all those women (or didn't care, a seeming suspension of their family values mantra). Then it turned out he'd been doing to his maid what he was doing to Californians overall.

- no one would have known about her had she not now come forth. And that's what's hurting her credibility - that she waited to come forth until the media was involved.

IMO, those that filed formal complaints some years ago hold all the credibility in this situation. There are too many people in the world - male and female - looking for that 15 minutes of media fame for me to entirely trust someone who only makes allegations AFTER the situation is in the media spotlight. Her association with Gloria Allred certainly doesn't help, either.

another job instead of trying to do something about the boss, with money, sexually harassing her. or being smeared cause she dared to speak out. oh wait... kinda like now, not even hearing what she has to say before saying she lack credibility.

already the women that did complain, and did get a settlement have been publically roasted for taking money and not pressing charges and going to court, so they must be lying. and other repug politicians comparing them to chicken, breast thighs and legs.... and women not being able to take a joke. and why arent the women speaking out, but hiding. no mention about a settlement that forces them to stay quiet as they get bashed.

i guess the moral to this story is... women, keep your god damn mouth shut and take it, let the man do what he wants cause regardless of action, you are dissed.

- is to speak out about sexual harassment when it occurs and not wait until it hits the front page. Two made formal complaints which is how it should have been handled.

She may be telling the 100% truth. My point is that her credibility suffers since she didn't come forth at the time the incident occurred.

assault. and then ask the number of women that told their story if they made a complaint.

the point being, one of the huge consideration in doing "how it should have been handled" per you, is the repercussion the female factors in. this thread alone shows the dismissive mentality we have toward women harassed. look, we even have a funny little subthread to sexualized a woman and some innuendos to dismiss a thread on harassment.

your point may be what women need to do, but ignoring a lot of the reality of this doesn't help your point.

- She's referred to as a "new" accuser. From a different article:

"Allred's client would be the first of Cain's accusers to speak publicly about the charges. Already, three former NRA employees have reported that they were harassed by Cain at the restaurant lobbying group; two of the women filed formal complaints and reached settlement agreements with the NRA."

It states that two of the women filed formal complaints. I read that as not this particular woman, especially since she's referred to as "new".

The woman is not one of the three women previously reported to have accused Cain of sexual harassment, Allred’s office said.

Allred’s client will allege that Cain harassed her when she sought his help seeking a job while he was president of the National Restaurant Association, the law office said in an e-mail. She will be the first person to give her name and provide details in a scandal that has consumed Cain’s presidential campaign for more than a week.
