Firing Of Waynesboro Police Officer For Refusing To Be Tasered Revoked
Firing Of Waynesboro Police Officer For Refusing To Be Tasered Revoked

Waynesboro, GA --

A Waynesboro Police Department officer is still in shock, after he was fired for not getting tasered as part of a training exercise. But, a week after the officer was fired, Waynesboro's Police Chief revoked it, and now that officer says he's not sure what to expect.

...

Saint Germaine: "I reported to work Saturday, the 22nd. The chief asked me was I going to get tased. I said, 'no, the doctor said I couldn't.' I talked to him previously about this. He said to go home and he didn't need me."

It was news that came as a shock to Saint Germaine, who says Georgia law doesn't mandate officers to get tasered...just to go through the class.

1. 'no, the doctor said I couldn't.'
Yet they'll use them on people on the street (etc) with no idea how being tased will affect them.

I want these banned on the Federal level. They are known to be judge/jury/executioner three-packs.

3. Usually affects them less...
...than being shot with a gun.

Sorry folks ...not all cops are assholes and not all people on the street are happy like Sesame Street.

Many times, people with anger issues that are high\drunk come at cops (and many other people as well judging by all the murders I read about across the US and the world) in violent manners. If the call is between a police officer and some asshole that is being violent to others - I get behind the cop.

10s of thousands have been hit with these mostly non-lethal devices and there are only a few hundred of deaths. Do the math.

I want violent criminals banned on a federal level - until that time, I stand behind the police (mostly - yes, there are quite a number of assholes in the force that need imprisonment) in order to protect me from those types of people.

You come at a cop violently - you take your chances.

Flame on...

4. I think I understand
As long as only a few die, then the ends justify the means.

Banning violent criminals, and how exactly would you go about doing that? Maybe the use of cryogenics like in the "Demolition Man"?

While I will admit that the police have a hard job to do and have to react on the spur of the moment, for the most part they don't seem to have a problem protecting those assholes, that are their fellow officers!

And as long as they continue to protect the criminals who wear the badges, they are part of the problem!

6. I'll start with agreeing with you that not all cops are assholes.
That being said, the whole idea that tasers and pepper spray are not supposed to be lethal does attract both a laziness and propensity to use quickly, and sometimes, unnecessarily.

And it does, as has been demonstrated, give the ones who ARE assholes, a tool to be used for punishment.

8. You deserve to be "flamed on" for being so ignorant of how they've actually been used.
used on children and old people for instance who would certainly be at considerable risk and who the police could easily subdue with less potentially lethal means. Not acceptable. Putting torture devices in the hands of sadists is really a stupid idea.

5. Indeed. A local deaf kid was killed by taser
After he was verbally given an order. The crowd yelled at the cop "He's Deaf" and the cop tased him.

2. Sadists don't appreciate being denied their pleasures
If the taser was confirmed as a 'non-lethal weapon,' it would be a different story, but there are hundreds - if not thousands - of instances where death or serious injury have been reported. PDs are far too swift to taser, and I cannot help but think there's a bit of sadism-related pathology at work.

BTW, I am surprised to see that spellcheck balks at the term 'taser'...and now I see that 'spellcheck' also doesn't pass muster.

7. "When you get tased, you could stop your heart."
And that really should put an end to using those pieces of sadistic shit on the population.
