Mr. President: An Iran Attack on Israel Is Attack on US

By Edward Koch

..snip..

Iran’s nuclear ambitions are unabated and the virulence of Ahmadinejad’s anti-American and anti-Israel existential threats continue. To add to these risks, Tehran has been the strongest supporter of the Assad regime in Syria, has worked to undermine our ally Saudi Arabia and other friendly Gulf states, and is the strongest supporter of Hezbollah and Hamas, two anti-Western terrorist organizations in the region.

Recently, the President of the U.S. and the Attorney General of the U.S., Eric Holder, announced that Iranian officials ordered the assassination of Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the U.S. and the blowing up of the Saudi and Israeli embassies in Washington, D.C.

The risk to our country of an Iranian attack on our long-time allies, Israel, the only truly democratic power in the region, or Saudi Arabia, also a long-term American ally and provider of energy, would definitively turn the Middle East into a Tehran dominated region, with devastating consequences for our country and remaining supporters in the area.

..end..

Most appropriate is what followed: The One Thing You Should Do for Your Prostrate Every Morning.

These fuckers just love the wars, don't they?

1. I would very much think that if Israel attacked Iran and Iran responed that it
would be self defense and therefore should not involve the US at all.

And yes, these asswipes love war.

4. I wouldn't blame Iran if it signed a mutual defense security pact with Russia and China
This nonsense has to stop. It's far more likely Israel will attack Iran before Iran attacks Israel. Too bad we have such a radical right party willing to egg Israel on - I guess they see political opportunity in destabilizing the ME and plunging the world into a cataclysmic war.

5. Basically "If Israel attacks Iran and Iran responds in any way, the US should attack Iran"
Hunh. Hey, with that dynamic who exactly is in charge?

7. We are clearly Israel's attack dog.
If Iran can't even defend themselves from Israeli aggression without incurring the wrath of the U.S., why WOULDN'T Israel attack Iran?

** That is, assuming Iran does not currently possess nuclear weapons.

It's a ridiculous position being put forth by psychopathic individuals.

8. Kind of incentivizes Israel to do precisely that.
I think the Government of Israel and the Republican Party are on the same page - both seem intent on marginalizing the progressive/moderate elements of their respective societies by keeping the fear of imminent war front and center in the political arena.

6. Iran has not attacked Israel
If they had, it would be an attack on Israel. While the US might choose to regard it as an act of war against the United States, it would not be an act of war against the US absent such consideration.

I'm not pleased with Iran's bellicose statements and clandestine activities. And I'm not pleased with Israel's bellicose statements and clandestine activities. Neither are in the interests of the United States.
