MSNBC:Russia issues stark warning against attack on Iran. Germany rejects US/Israeli military action
From http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45187774/ns/world_news-mideast_n_africa/#.TrhFJXIhdPg">MSNBC:
Russia and Iran warned the West against a military strike on the Islamic Republic Monday, saying an attack targeting its nuclear program would lead to civilian casualties and create new threats to global security.

The separate remarks by foreign ministers Sergei Lavrov of Russia and Ali Akbar Salehi of Iran coincided with speculation about a potential Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear sites ahead of the release of a U.N. watchdog report expected to cast more light on suspected military aspects to Iran's nuclear activity.

"This would be a very serious mistake fraught with unpredictable consequences," Lavrov told a news conference in Moscow when asked about reports that Israel was preparing for a possible pre-emptive military strike.

--snip--

Germany's Foreign Ministry also rejected military action against Iran, suggesting that the dispute should be resolved through diplomatic pressure instead. "This continues to be the key way to move forward in dealing with this threat to regional and international security," a spokesman said.

4. It's also in their self interest: Turkey, Russia (et al) buy petroleum products from...
...Iran and as far as Germany goes, any conflict like this is almost an intentional slap at the wobbling spinning plate that is the Euro.

An unnecessary pre-emptive strike against Iran could have disastrous consequences for many other (unrelated) countries in the region.

6. Russia is the largest oil exporter in the world. It actually sells
petroleum products to Iran, which has insufficient oil processing capacity itself.

2. I have been wondering when Russia might involve itself in this, now we know.

This would absolutely be a tragic mistake by Israel. I would love to see China come out with a warning also.

8. Russia is not reliable, Iran waited 3 years for the S300 and never got it
The S-300 was developed in the Soviet Union in the late 1970s and has a range of up to 150 kilometers. It can hit aircraft, cruise missiles and even ballistic missiles, and track up to 24 targets simultaneously.

The system was supplied to a number of other nations. A deal with Iran was reportedly signed in 2007, but was never finalized. The contract, which would have allowed Iran protect its crucial nuclear facilities from a possible air strike, was vocally objected to by Israel and its allies.

The sale was canceled in June 2010 due to a set of sanctions imposed against Teheran by the UN Security Council. The international security body mounted pressure to force Iran to make its nuclear and ballistic missile programs more transparent.

9. Shouldn't common sense have issued a stark warning against an attack?
Or is that too much to ask?

10. Good. The last thing we need is another war to further enrich the 1%.

11. I'm With Russia
If Israel strikes Iran, and our Administration supports them, I will never vote for the Administration again or anybody in it.

Can't the American people see that these continuing wars are destroying us?
