VOTER ID LAWS will be discussed on C-SPAN tomorrow morning.
Edited on Mon Nov-07-11 04:21 PM by elleng
Tomorrow morning at 8:15 Eastern, tune in to C-SPAN for an engaging debate about voter ID laws and their impact on the 2012 election.

Jon Greenbaum, Chief Counsel at the Lawyers' Committee, will be standing up for the rights of millions of eligible citizens across the nation whose right to vote has been stripped away by needlessly restrictive voter ID laws.

Jon Greenbaum will be debating Hans von Spakovsky of the Heritage Foundation, who despite saying "there is no evidence that there is ‘massive’ voter fraud in the United States," nevertheless insists that voter ID laws are necessary to prevent the fraud he admits is practically non-existent.

As you know, the Lawyers' Committee has fiercely opposed laws that make it harder for eligible citizens to vote. When people tell us voter ID laws are no big deal, and that you need a government-issued photo ID to do practically everything, we tell them about individuals like Virginia Lasater.

Virginia, 91 years-old, had been voting and working in campaigns for 70 years. Naturally, when Tennessee passed its voter ID law, she tried to get the photo ID she would need to continue casting her vote.

Virginia's son took her to the testing center, but with over 100 people in line ahead of them and no available chairs, Virginia knew she wouldn't be able to stand and wait - so they left.

Tennessee’s new law has deprived Virginia of her right to vote, and she's not the only one harmed by these laws. Across the nation, voter suppression legislation has been making it harder for eligible citizens, including minorities, individuals with disabilities, the elderly, students, and recently married women, to register and vote.

Tune in to C-SPAN tomorrow morning, Tuesday, November 8th at 8:15 am Eastern. During the broadcast, you can email, tweet, and call in your questions and comments.

We look forward to having you join us for this important conversation!

Sincerely,

Barbara Arnwine
Executive Director
The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law

P.S.: One more thing - If you've had trouble getting the ID you need to vote, we want to hear about it!

3. It's probably more than that.
Think about circumventing old media.
