RALEIGH -- North Carolina residents are evenly divided in how they feel about the anti-Wall Street protest movement - and the tea party that preceded it - which cater to Americans angered by the country's business and government institutions, a statewide poll released Monday found.
The Elon University Poll found that those who were familiar with Occupy Wall Street are split, with 45 percent holding an unfavorable opinion and 45 percent expressing support. The poll does not measure eligible or likely voters.
The N.C. findings are more positive about the protest movement than a national survey. That poll, done for the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and the Boston Herald, found 35 percent had a favorable impression of Occupy Wall Street; 16 were supportive of Wall Street and large corporations.
