Consequently, California's hard-hit people and depressed economy are deprived of the wages, taxes, and consumer spending they would've gotten from some 3,000 jobs that went overseas.

I have wondered how this happened. The contractor for it is American Bridge, who was the original contractor.

"Workers on the bridge were imported from China. They sleep in company dormitories and work from 7am to 11pm, often seven days a week. A typical wage is $12 a day."

Why after all the problems with Chinese products, like pet food, additives in baby formula and on and on, are we now supposed to trust them to make such a crucial structure?
