Could use a few hugs/good thoughts from my DU brothers and sisters tonight

[The Straight Story]

My son is on a plane to Iraq, leaving behind his wife and 3 kids. His wife told me the kids cried the whole way home but are now sleeping. He was supposed to go months ago, but due to his son being born it got delayed. Then he got injured and delayed more. Going to go, to Afghanistan, then Iraq, then delayed, then not sure if shipping out, etc - been a roller coaster.

My dad woke me up at 1:51am this morning telling me he was taking my Sister-in-law to the hospital, she just got out of surgery and we are still not sure how she is doing - she had a hernia burst and they have to, or did already I guess, remove part of her colon and such - don't ask me, I am not a Dr. - mom went to the same hospital for something similar back in 2004 and it ended poorly (I fell back asleep after dad woke me up and had dreams about calling mom and telling her about it all - then I realized as I woke up that calling her would not work out too well...).

My son's wife told me what I already knew a few minutes ago as we were chatting, she saw in his eyes how sad he was to leave them all, but stayed strong.

I know, not making much sense - and not even going into other things. Been hiding a lot of issues going on of late, trying to 'carry on' as people have told me to do. Tonight, I cannot. I could use some hugs. We can bicker later about politics and such.

light before the darkness. Hang in there I have been where you have been. It is never easy to see your husband, child, brother, sister go into harms way. You must try not to change your routine. Get together with others who are in the same boat. There is help at the base. You don't have to be alone. Go to the chaplains' office. Go to the unit's staff office because they have a support group and there is help. All you must do is ask. Especially when it comes to your children.
