Is Group Think dangerous?
Looks like Loughner was in some way influence by people who devised conspiracies by 'group think.' Do people who float these nonsense theories bare any responsibility and is group think dangerous when used in this way? Should we stop group think?

So what does this forum say about 'group think'?

3. I was going
to wait to see what other people thought, before I could decide what I think.

7. IMO, the term "groupthink" applies to decision making by a group who sieze on
one approach without considering other options.

8. Group think is dangerous if the group consists of ignorant people.
Group think is not dangerous if the group consists of intelligent people. Fools feed off of each other.

11. A person is smart.
Edited on Tue Jan-18-11 11:09 PM by Cerridwen
A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow.

------------

Now I gotta go find the writer who wrote that for "Men in Black"

edit: found: Writers: Lowell Cunningham (comic), Ed Solomon (screen story)

16. It doesn't matter how smart or dumb a group is when using groupthink.
The tendency of people to feed off the approval of others will eventually escalate past mere 'smart' or 'dumb'.

Groupthink is a terrible thing.
