Obama Approval at 50%--Disapproval at 42%---Gallup
Edited on Tue Jan-18-11 10:41 PM by louis c
Barack Obama has an approval rating today (1/18) of 50% in Gallup's three day rolling averages. This is some significant improvement since the "shellacking" he (and we) took on November 2, 2010. I admit that I only post the good news from Gallup. After all, there are plenty of blogs and sites that will give you the bad news when President Obama's numbers are down. I also understand that this 3 day average from Gallup can be a bit volatile.

Having said that, a plus 8 points at this stage of anyone's Presidency is a very, very good rating. If the election was held today and the undecideds broke 5% to 3% against the President, he'd have a larger margin of victory than he did in 2008. I know, I know, the election isn't today. But it is obvious that those who wrote President Obama's political obituary just 10 weeks ago were perhaps "exaggerating".

1. Theres a new ABC poll that shows he's doing
even better.... something like 53 approval.

His move to the center (the tax cut deal, bipartisan lame duck session...) and his Tuscon speech (where he said right wing rhetoric was NOT the cause) has really given him a boost.

6. His 'move to the center'? When was he ever not right of center?
The boost came after DADT was repealed so it's more than likely that some of his lost base were happy about that.

And presidents are always more popular when there is a national tragedy. But unless he's appealing more to Republicans than Democrats, which very well may be the case, it was not 'his move to the center' that boosted his numbers. It was that move that lost him support.
